that is fascinating, b/c you have no symptoms on the lower dose, right?

I finally got my iodine loading test results back, two months after I sent them in. I hope that the problems they ran into are now fixed so that they can get results back to others quickly.

I now understand why others didn't understand the test report. The report is very poorly designed, and unless you know what you are looking for, impossible to interpret. They really need to design a better report form.

My saturation came back at 48%, which is pretty low considering I had been taking 50 mg Iodoral (4 tablets) for over 3 months. I don't know why it is that low.

After taking the test, I cut back to one Iodoral per day, or 12.5 mg.

I have scheduled the free phone consult with Flechas for next week. I'll see if he has anything interesting to say. I suspect he will tell me to continue with the 50 mg Iodoral for another three months.

Could it be that you are low in " tyrosine " .

Tyrosine is used by iodine to create the T3 and T4.

The following is a clip from an article on Tyrosine

and Iodine.

" The thyroid has the only cells in the body capable of

absorbing iodine. The thyroid takes in iodine,

obtained through food, iodized salt, or supplements,

and combines it with the amino acid tyrosine. The

thyroid then converts the iodine/tyrosine into the

hormones T3 and T4. The " 3 " and the " 4 " refer to the

number of iodine molecules in each thyroid hormone

molecule. "

I learn't about tyrosine a few days ago and just

started reseaching on it.

I tried tyrosine and thought I was having a heart attack! that was b4 I was on adrenal support and maybe b/c I was sooo low in iodine.

After the first month on Iodoral, I have had no symptoms at any dose. Zoe

Who did you use to read the sample? I just got a test kit from FFP labs in NC and they said they were 5 weeks behind. Michigan

Atul, the test was measuring "iodine" not thyroid hormones, so I don't think body tyrosine levels would be relevant.

If the orthoiodo people are correct, only about half of the iodine is used by the thyroid, the rest being used by the rest of the body.

I would assume my tyrosine is high enough since I eat a lot of protein.

Not too bad! You are only 13 pts under full saturation. It took me 4 1/2 mos of 50 mgs per day to get to 66% from zero. From what I have read you can reach saturation in 3 months on 50 mgs and then maintain with 12.5-25 mgs per day depending on your body.

iodine loading test results

I just got my test results back from the iodine loading tests. Imailed the sample on Monday, 10/30, so I think that was really quick.Here are my results:I & I Loading 38 range: >44I & I Saturation 77 range: >90They lists these results as low, but that's not really all that low,is it? Well the first thing I see is that you are on a crappy T4 only med and an antidepressant. If you got the proper T3 levels and adrenals straightened out odds are you would not need paxil. Armour thyroid works great. My Dr (when I was on synthroid and feeling bad) gave me zoloft. I took one and knew it wasn't the problem. I got on Armour and feel great now. Just a plug for a better thyroid med.

You are targeting a level of 90% Saturation. You still have a way to go. I am at 70 as of my last test (January '07) and had been on 50 mgs of Iodine for a year. Did you have radiation with your breast cancer? You may have damaged NIS. You can improve absorption with the nutrients listed on the www.breastcancerchoices.org website under the iodine section.
