Guest guest
Yup! Think you're right! The band itself is quite indestructible, so you won't be hurting *IT*. But the pain is telling you that your pouch and esophagus are very unhappy, and the tissues are being damaged. Doing this often can result in ongoing problems, some serious. WE all goof occasionally and pb or have pain as a reminder to do better, but if it happens often (and often to me is more than a couple times a month) we need to figure out what we are doing wrong and change it. Most of the time, when we talk about " hurting the band " we actually mean " hurting the tissues around and under the band " - or " hurting the band's chance of living happily in us for long " - not actually causing the band itself to be damaged. Right. That also means it is time to STOP eating. you're done. A> I wonder if this can damage the band??? Well, the band itself won't be hurt, but it can stretch your pouch if you continue eating then, and that's not good. Also, why cause yourself pain? Guest guest
Well actually it happens when I FIRST start eating (because I am eating too agressively and inhaling my food) so then I have to start over and cut up small small and chew much better and is ok...but as far as stretching the pouch....this occurs when I take my first one or two bites and eat like used to. Guest guest
Ok, then, this sounds like esophageal spasms, if it occurs mainly with the first few bites. In addition to tiny bites and good chewing, try this: Dink a cup of hot liquid like tea right before you start to eat, or put a warm heating pad on your chest for 1/2 hr before eating. These help relax the esophagus, and usually help. Let us know if this does the trick - lots of things to learn with banding!
