Hey, that sounds good. Anxious to hear others

opinions.

I've been under the impression for many, many years that oil and the

vagina do not mix - as in never use oil vaginally, ever. I may have

missed an update on that somewhere along the line.

But I wonder if you'd need bother with oil if you put the iodine in a

capsule and inserted it vaginally? I know people who do this with

essential oils [yes, that's oil, but it's therapeutic, in small

quantity and encapsulated] so capsules can definitely be inserted. I

wonder if the iodine would have any effect on the composition of the

capsule - I'd think not since the eo's dissolve styrofoam cups and

they are fine in the capsules.

[i even know of some who put the appropriate essential oils for lung

infections into capsules, sometimes diluted with a plain oil, and use

them as rectal suppositories - supposedly, since the capsules aren't

being swallowed and broken down through all of the digestive system,

they get to have an effect on the lungs faster than otherwise. But, I

digress.]

Good luck.

I also had that Impression. I am almost certain that oil is a no no

with condoms because it breaks down the latex but I also thought the

rule was no oil vaginally regardless.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Joan,

Call the well-respected Women's International Pharmacy and ask them what their vaginal hormone suppositories are made from. As I recall, some are made from cocoa butter. You can also ask if they've ever heard about any contraindication for oils.

I'm not sure who made the " rule " - perhaps western medicine? Found one

of many folk-medicine uses of coconut oil in India:

" For vaginitis, mix a pinch of turmeric powder in coconut oil and

apply. "

Isn't turmeric a spice? Does it have anti bacterial

properties?? I did a douche made up of boiled water,

iodine, a little, and a little applie cider vinegar.

I would also be willing to try the cocunut oil if I

knew this was also ok and I could figure out a way to

make suppositories.

Cocoa butter sounds good too. Women's Pharmacy closed today, but I

found the following at Wikipedia:

Because of the melting temperature of cocoa butter, it is often used

in pharmaceuticals as a base for suppositories. It is able to be

stored at room temperature, but readily melts at body temperature,

releasing the medication. Cocoa butter is one of the most stable

fats known, containing natural antioxidants that prevent rancidity

and give it a storage life of two to five years, making it a good

choice for non-food products.

I'm still in favor of coconut oil as the primary base though. Keep

Hope Alive is a non-profit org dedicated to people fighting various

illnesses including cancer and HIV/Aids, candida too I think. They

have a TON of stuff about coconut oil, including the following for

suppositories:

This leads to the next question: Can a daily dose of lauric acid

(3.5 tbsps of coconut oil) be absorbed into the body as a rectal

implant? Would not adding one clove of garlic to the coconut oil

make this a powerful double hit combo? No one has tried this as a

treatment for AIDS or CFIDS; perhaps someone should.

http://www.keephopealive.org/report14.html

coconut oil can be used as a " lubricating agent in suppositories and

capsules "

http://www.portalmarket.com/coconutvoil.html

From wikipedia:

Although not suitable for use with condoms, coconut oil is an

excellent, inexpensive lubricant for sexual intercourse. Before

coconut oil is used as a sexual lubricant, however, it is

recommended to do an allergy test.

(note - I've read elsewhere that allergies are usually from the

protein in the coconut meat and not the fats in coconut oil)

Looks like it can't hurt and might actually help?

Turmeric root is made into a spice that is said to be antiseptic and

antibacterial. It's getting a lot of medical interest recently.

Wikipedia lists a bunch of health benefits including:

" A recent study involving mice has shown that turmeric slows the

spread of breast cancer into lungs and other body parts. Turmeric

also enhances the effect of taxol in reducing metastasis of breast

cancer. "

Sharma S, Kulkarni SK, Agrewala JN, Chopra K. " Curcumin attenuates

thermal hyperalgesia in a diabetic mouse model of neuropathic pain. "

Eur J Pharmacol. 2006 May 1; 536(3): 256-61

Also of interest:

" It is taken in some Asian countries as a dietary supplement, which

allegedly helps with stomach problems and other ailments. It is

popular as a tea in Okinawa, Japan. It is currently being

investigated for possible benefits in Alzheimer's disease, cancer

and liver disorders. "

but oh oh...

" Ayurvedic doctors say it has fluoride which is thought to be

essential for teeth. "

I wonder if the fluoride is much?

Iodine mixes with coconut oil very easily. You then just put it in

something with a small form (e.g., candy mold, bottom of a shot

glass), then put it in the refrigerator to harden (doesn't take long).

Wear a pad in case of leakage. Maximize absorption by inserting it

only at bedtime.

Look for turmeric that is standardized for the active ingredient (Curcumin)

Turmeric is an antioxidant it will also increase bile from the liver so

if you take much of it expect some green color to the BM, not sure if this will

effect one using it to douche with.

You may want to just skip the turmeric and purchase curcumin which is the

reason most people use turmeric for anyway.

You might try the candy stores for molds and or ask your pharmacy if

they can order you tubes of the kinds that comes in the Monistat,

these could be filled and inserted.
