There are two kinds of metal in the band, including a tiny stainless

steel connector 5 inches up from the port. This is the same type of

metal that most guns are made of.

The newer very high-tech security in some of the airports like

Heathrow in london does alarm with the band. I suspect, as other

airports get new security equipment, the band's metal may be picked

up more often.

Be sure you have one of the Inamed lapband ID cards - good to carry

in your wallet anyway. Before you get in the security line, tell the

people that you have an implanted metal device that may possibly

cause the alrm to activate. they will hand-scan you and there wil be

no problems.

Be sure you remain very well-hydrated when you fly, and get up and

walk around at leadst every hour to prevent blood clots. This is impt

for ALL people, not just bandsters. sandy RN

That's a bit scary if the alarms go off Sandy, especially with all

the things that are happening around the world. I'm flying to

Florida (for a family reunion) in August 2005, and I will dread to

know that is going to go off as I will be going to Gatwick for my

flight to Orlando.

ooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh!!

As I said, tell the security people that you have a medical implant,

and they will not send you throuigh the big alarms. The small hand-

scanners will emit only a small alarm, if they even alarm at all.

don't worry! Sandy RN

I'd still just go through the regular gates. Anything you do to call

attention to yourself will cause you even more trouble. The chances

of it alarming are remote. Plus, alarms go off all the time. People

forget their keys, their belt buckle, their suspenders, whatever. So

they get the hand scan. Takes a minute, but no big deal. Sure, you

can request a hand scan, but why bother if you don't need to...you'll

probably go right through the gate just fine.
