Guest guest
Hi Adrien, welcome to the list. Yes your post makes perfect sense...OCD sense that is :-) My daughter now 11 had an abrupt onset of OCD at 4 years, 11 months and started also with bizarre, frightening bad thoughts and compulsions to do dangerous things. It seemed anything anyone ever warned her not to do (stare at the sun, insert something in an outlet, etc.), OCD turned around and made her feel she had to do the thing to prevent an even worse thing happening--usually my death or her own. It was terrifying to hear her say these things, to say the least. At that age, I told my child to think the bad things on purpose, sort of beat OCD to the punch. OCD can't continue to torment her with thoughts that she's become acclimated to from repeatedly thinking about them. When she'd say in a panic " I can't stop thinking about cutting out my eyes with a sharp, sharp knife!!) I learned from this list to say something like, well, I guess we'll need to get you a guide dog. How long do you think it will take you to learn to walk to school with your Seeing Eye dog? I bet all your friends will be jealous! We also read a kid's book about vision, she helped me cut grapes (eyes) in half for Jello, and I took her for an eye exam. We did lots of stuff re eyes and this helped take the anxiety out of the cutting thought. I'm sorry I can't give you a name of a therapist in Las Vegas but I know there are others on the list who will likely be able to. (another moderator) is there or nearby, I hope she sees your post. Dr. Wagner has often suggested seeking a childrens' anxiety clinic attached to a university hospital. These tend to be staffed with therapists up-to-the-minute on CBT/ERP for OCD, and frequently offer a sliding fee scale. Again welcome, it sounds like you and your son are on the right track. Guest guest
Hi Everyone! I am new to this group. My daughter Sierra is 2 and we are still going through the process to get a CI. I have noticed their are so many decisions. We are trying to decide on what ci to get now. We will be schduled for surgery on January 7th. I do have some questions? How did you all decide on what ci to get? The dr said they are the same just different accessories. Any suggestions?
Guest guest
Hi, They are NOT all the same but with different accessories. There is a wealth of information about the difference on the www..com website. Nucleus was the first one ever approved for use in children as young as a year of age, and with the new baby worn processor for the Freedom implant, it will make it easier for your child to grow up with the processor and implant. Do your homework, look at what is easiest for YOUR lifestyle. I like the flexibility of having 4 different programming slots, 5 different strategies for mapping the processor and the ability to use rechargeable as well as disposable batteries. NO other company offers all that. check it out; do your homework. badclg1821@... badclg1821 Wed Dec 19, 2007 6:26 pm (PST) Hi Everyone! I am new to this group.
