Guest guest
Ted, You can either use the battery cage with 3- 675 CI batteries OR..... one rechargeable battery made specifically for the Freedom BTE, which fits in the same space as the battery cage. If you go on the online store at the Cochlear site, you can see the rechargeable battery option for the Freedom. Happy Hearing! Do you mean you can use the rechargeables in your BTE processor and still keep it on your ear? The only way I can see me being able to use rechargeables, is by using the body worn controller and thats too big to fit behind my ears :-) Ted F. > > Ted, > > I have the standard-size Freedom that holds EITHER 3 disposable > batteries inserted in a battery cage OR one rechargeable battery. Guest guest
Hi Ted, I think we're all confused here, that your BTE doesn't use rechargeables, yet you say it's the standard size. Because the BTE for Freedom comes in 2 sizes. One uses 2 rechargeable batteries, and you cannot plug any of the adaptive equipment into it. It's smaller than the other Freedom which runs on 3 disposable batteries OR a rechargeable battery. We're not talking body worns for either. The Freedom certainly should be sweat resistant. And, no you should NOT attempt to repair it yourself. The only things I repair are sewing machines and vaccuum cleaners. Currently have a vac in pieces in the basement. Was sending off smoke signals when I ran it, which told me something was caught around the motor. Had to take the entire thing apart - who knew a vac had so many pieces, and screws, too. Well when I got to the motor there was about 2 meters of yarn wrapped around the motor itself. Had to take that apart to get what was caught in between the outer part of the motor and the inner part. If I can't get it back together again, I'll have lots of pieces to repair the other vac I have just like it. But leave the $6,000 (US $) speech processors to the experts. And do try changing the cable and coil both. Because that could " short out " and you'd think the batteries were dead. I personally am finishing up a box of batteries with a Dec 2004 pull date. Took me that long to use them. Just reordered another 300, so should be set for like 4 years. I get 13 DAYS off the 3 batteries - but then I use SPEAK as a mapping strategy. I'm not one of these people that do their own repairs. Its an expensive and technical piece of equipment that I know little about. I leave that sort of stuff for the experts, if I can find one :-). Guest guest
Ted, Yes, it's on my ear. I don't have a body-worn processor. I've got two BTEs. It's no problem at all. The rechargeable is in the shape of a cage. All you have to do is push it in (if what you have is a standard size that can take 3 disposable batteries. e
Guest guest
Ted, You got your Freedom long ago. The rechargeable batteries were not part of the package then. I think the kit refered to is simply the package of the items that were given to us. I am guessing they are now part of the package. 2 rechargeable batteries and one charger. Nothing else is needed to use them. You can pop in the rechargeable or the battery cage, no adjustments are needed. The body worn does not use hearing aid batteries, just AAA which can be any type, alkaline or rechargeable. The rechargeable set was part of the Freedom upgrade package. You can buy it too and use them with your processor. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* Some days you are the bug, some days you are the windshield. & Dreamer Doll ke7nwn Newport, Oregon N24C 3G 8/2000 Hookup rclark0276@... http://webpages.charter.net/dog_guide/
Guest guest
We dont seem to have access to the Cochlear Americas online store. Whenever I try to use it, it automatically switches me to the Asia Pacific site, which doesnt appear to have an online store. Does anyone agree with me, that the Cochlear site is one of the worst and most frustrating, to negotiate? I have sent an email to their customer relations people in Oz, asking about that kit thats been mentioned here a few times, thats available to you in the USA, to let you use rechargeables in your BTE Freedoms. Guest guest
e They dont seem to be available here in Oz. I dont have one and had never heard of them. Thats why there was so much confusion. You all knew what you were talking about, but I didnt :-) I have sent Cochlear Aust an email asking if they are available here. Guest guest
Thanks, . We are starting to sort out the mess and confusion. I have had my Freedom for 20 months. And yes, the AAA batteries and charger are for use in the body worn controller. I got the charger and 4 x AAA rechargeables as part of my package. Plus they gave me a Dry & Store unit, which is one of the most important pieces of the package for me. Ted F. > > Ted, > You got your Freedom long ago. Guest guest
Ted, Good, we are making progress. What you get as a package may not be the same as what we get. An curious tho, why dont you try the body worn? Tho if it is a sweat problem, the processor would still be of concern. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* I'm not offended by all the dumb blonde jokes, because I know I'm not dumb...and I also know that I'm not blonde. --Dolly Parton & Dreamer Doll ke7nwn Newport, Oregon N24C 3G 8/2000 Hookup rclark0276@... http://webpages.charter.net/dog_guide/
Guest guest
I'll wait for a reply from Cochlear Oz and if that kit isnt available here, I will have a play with the body worn controller. There will probably be some more daft questions, then. Such as where do you put the body worn controller so that it doesnt affect the sound that goes into the mic etc. Ted F. > > Ted, > Good, we are making progress. Guest guest
Ted, Good for you! They should be making them available to people in Australia too. I LOVE the rechargeables! Mine lasts all day. I take it off at night and recharge it, then put it in again in the morning. My other implant (Med-El) takes disposables, and they'll die in the middle of something and startle me. It's like getting the rug pulled out from under me all of a sudden. Good luck! e

Guest guest
Hi, I don't think they do. A red light comes on when they die, but who knows, I could be wrong. I have never noticed it at any rate. I was implanted with the Med-El in 1991. I know about the Freedom battery signal because I used the disposables for about 10 days when I was first hooked up. Guest guest
Hello e I just got this reply from Cochlear Customer Relations in Oz, apparently it is available here, at a price: Dear Ted, Thank you for your enquiry. The Freedom BTE Rechargeable Battery System is available for $750.00. The system is available in beige, brown, black, silver, pink & blue and includes the following items: 2 x BTE batteries 1 x Recharger 1 x Power Supply 1 x International Plug Pack 1 x 12v Car Adaptor Should you wish to have more than 2 batteries, the individual batteries are available for $240.00 each once you have purchased the initial system. I will see if my C.I. centre will swap my BWP for one of these kits, if they dont or wont, I couldnt pay that amount of money to buy something I might only rarely use. I already have 4 x AAA Rechargeables, the recharger, power supply, plug and 12v car adaptor for the BWP. I have never unpacked any of it. If they wont swap me, I guess I had better start playing with what I have ;-). Ted F. > > Ted, > > Good for you! They should be making them available to people in > Australia too. Guest guest
OK, thanks . I just had to go and fetch it out of the box to have a look. Now I can see that the one end of the cable plugs into the BWP and the other end plugs onto the processor instead of the BTE controller that holds the battery cage for the disposable batteries. I also have a couple of pouches, which means that I could maybe have it on a belt or in a pocket. If a swap isnt on, I will have to fetch this lot out, charge the batteries and play with it. If its worth about Aus$750.00 the same as the BTE kit for the rechargeables, I'll have to get some use out of it :-). Guest guest
Ted, I agree that's dreadfully expensive. Mine came as part of the price of my implantation, and it was covered by insurance. e
