Guest guest
Hi Ted, Sorry to hear that your problem is back.I doubt that its sweat, its too quick for the loaner to be affected by it.Whats making you sweat, is the temperature and humidity off the scale there? I suppose that huge humidity might affect passage of air through the bottom filter paper in the cassette?? Assuming that your batteries are not a faulty batch, I can only suggest: Try running the thing with fresh batts, off your head, see what happens to batt life. Empty a cassette, get a small screwdriver, and flex the brass contacts in the battery spaces, downwards / outwards, so they make stiffer contact with the battery surfaces. Clean all contacts including ones on top of cassette, with cotton bud moistened with meths. > > I posted a message here a few weeks ago, about a possible battery > problem I had with my Freedom. Guest guest
Its very bad news if it wont work, Virg. Where I live on the East Coast of Australia, in Queensland on the Gold Coast, it gets hot and humid. I never had any problems last year though?? Ted F. > > 'Must be the sweat, Ted. Guest guest
Hello , I'm conviced now that its sweat. I put the loaner in the Dry & Store for 4 hours and when I took it out, it worked OK for the 4 hours I wore it for the rest of the day. Before I put it in the Dry & Store, I was getting beeps every 2 minutes. It does get humid here and I can sweat just walking around the air- conditioned shops. The batteries I used were out of 2 different boxes, both with a use by date of June 2010. After the initial problems, I have had TWO new battery cages in there and got the same response as with my original cage. I dont mess around with things myself, I just got them to send me some spare cages. Its been sent away now to be looked at, but it was strange I had the EXACT same problem with the loaner. If I ever find out what the problem was, I'll post it in here, but I doubt I will ever find out. Guest guest
Hi Ted, I haven't had the problem you have even though I live in the very hot, humid south in the USA. Have you ever tried the rechargeable batteries? It wouldn't hurt to purchase a set of them and see how they work for you. They are supposed to be more water resistant than using the disposables. I use the rechargeables all the time except when I go out of town. Guest guest
Hello Lynn I have rechargeables and a charger, they gave me them when I first got all my Freedom stuff. Guest guest
Ted, I'm referring to the rechargeables for the Freedom BTE. The rechargeable takes the place of the battery cage and round batteries. Guest guest
Hi Ted, Try using rechargeable batteries. That will tell you if the problem is with the battery cage, batteries, or the processor itself. Eliminate one set of alternatives that way. Then rather than trying to repair it yourself as someone suggested, call Cochlear and tell them what the problem is, and have them send you a replacement. Simple as that. Of course it has to go via your implant centre to be mapped. You should not be having grief like this, so stamp your foot and sort them out. Guest guest
No, not the mini, just the ordinary Freedom, Carol. My programmes are the same as they have been for over 18 months. Guest guest
On my first battery cage, I used batteries with different expiry dates . These 2 boxes both expire Jun 2010. Guest guest
Hello Its gone back to my audi to be sent back to Cochlear for maintenance. I cant use rechargeables without using the BWP and I dont want to wear that. Odd that I had the EXACT same problem with both my own processor or controller and the loaner processor and controller. I will be banging my feet if I am going to get this nightmare every time I sweat. To me, water resistant means sweat resistant too. I'm not one of these people that do their own repairs. Its an expensive and technical piece of equipment that I know little about. I leave that sort of stuff for the experts, if I can find one :-). Ted F. > > Hi Ted, > Try using rechargeable batteries. Guest guest
, they were only going to send me a loaner processor, but I insisted they send me the contoller too, because I dont know whether the problem is in the processor, controller or battery cage. They sent me a loaner processor and controller and battery cage, no coil. So I purposely used a brand new coil and a brand new magnet too, out of my spares, so that nothing is the same. Except the problem :-) I've never used the body worn processor and dont want to, if possible, that's got rechargeables. Its probably useful to some people, but not to me. Guest guest
Ted, Well why not use the body worn and see what happens? You do want to eliminate as many possibilities as you can.
