Guest guest
Well, It has now been a full week having reduced my Lex to 5 mg. I was at a high of 30mg per day when I decided that I wanted off due to increased sides at the higher doses.... figured while I was at it, I would become med free! . I have gradually gone from 30 to 20 to 10, and now 5 (over a 6 week period)I probably will always suffer from GAD, but am determined to deal with it with coping skills (at 56 yrs of age!). (yikes!) So far their has been NO NEGATIVE EFFECT going down to 5 mg, but I will know more in maybe 2 more weeks, since Lex has a pretty long half life. The true test will come when I further taper to zero. I will take my time with the final reduction! A POSITIVE EFFECT IS THAT MY OLD SLEEP HABITS HAVE RETURNED! I DO NOT WAKE UP EARLY IN THE AM ANYMORE WITH ANXIETY ATTACKS, BUT SLEEP LIKE A ROCK INSTEAD! I still think the sleep problem was another side of the high dose of Lex I was on! I will say that if I had followed the taper I am now on with either Paxil or worse....EFFEXOR, I would be a basket case by now. At least I know that Lex is MUCH easier on the body when tapering down (for me anyway)! Hopefully the only negative effect will be a Micro reduction in Forest Labs revenues!!!!! My PDoc was SHOCKED at my being able to reduce my dose this far ....he even wrote another Lex script probably out of habit. Hey, I wonder if PDOCS develop a phobia about writing scrpts..... (SCRIPTOPHOBIC.....maybe I should trademark the name and develop a med to treat the PDOCS!!!!)! I plan on reducing my contribution to his revenue stream as well..VERY SOON! Another POSITIVE side effect of reduction....my " mental flatness " has disapeared and my sense of humor has returned! NOTE TO DANA...I hope things are better now and you have your Kitty back! Pets are very helpful for those with GAD and depression!! Even MY PETS....The 2 Beagles from Hell! <grin>. Seriously studies reveal that simply petting your animals can have a lowering effect on your BP!!!! IMHO, there is definately a synergistic relationship with people and pets! Guest guest
Hi Jeff ~ ~ Your posts are fun to read *smiles*. I always get a chuckle out of them. Glad to hear your feelings or normalcy are returning and you are no longer flat and your sleeping is much better. Without sleep...... we can not hope to restore ourselves. I wish you luck in your continuing reduction of medications and hope you can have a reprieve from all this. I too hate to take soo much medication. I lost my pet, my vet center will not return him to me as I signed away my rights when I put him up for adoption Fortunately I have two other little furbabies who are doing much better now that my other kitty is gone, sad to say. Things are much more peaceful here at home now and I don't have the extra worries right now. If I had brought him home it would have been an extremely long uphill battle with his anxiety disorder and not to mention the specialists vet bills while I am still unemployed. Had I not been unemployed, I would not have given up on him so easily. Dealing with grief issues is not easy with depression.
