I've never used prozac. Have been on lexapro for about a year. Last doc.

visit I talked about the weight gain, 20 lbs. My doc said that lexapro is not

supposed to cause weight gain and that the only drug she knows of to cause

weight loss is prozac. Have you any experience with weight gain or loss? Why

are

thinking about switching? Thanks for any feed back.

I've gained about 10 pounds on Lex, over the past few months. At first, I lost

a bit on it but I was very motivated then and watching my diet and exercising a

lot. Lately, I've been slacking a bit on that score, so it might not be totally

due to the Lex that I've gained 10 pounds. Also, my sister has been on Prozac

for a while now. At first, she lost a lot of weight rather quickly (got down to

a Size 8!), but after a while she put the weight back on again, PLUS some more.

So, I don't think Prozac is a magic weight loss pill, ultimately. I do know of

" magic " weight loss pills, like Phentermine (www.phentermine.com), but not only

are they expensive they are bad for you. I took them for a month, and lost so

much weight but they made my heart pound in a way that was rather scary. So,

after four weeks and a loss of nearly 20 pounds, I went off them. The weight

DID come back on again, but very slowly. I suspect those pills are

kissing-cousins of amphetamines however: as they made me feel a bit high (and

also " edgy " -- not good).

Hello

Just an FYI...I gained on Lexapro, Effexor, Paxil and the worst was

Remeron (ate everything in sight!!!). I am a 56 yr old male and had

not really gained more than 5lbs or so until I started

SSRI's....might just be mu own reaction since we are all different!

Not saying your Doc is wrong, but mine said the same thing....For

me, he was wrong. Never tried prozac so I cannot comment.

I am still carrying around 10 out of the 20 lbs I gained on lex and

I stopped 8 mos ago. Of course it could also be a metabolic rate chg!

regards

jeff

I was thinking of a change. I heard Lexapro is more " sex friendly "

not causing the lack of desire etc comapred to other ssris. Is this

true? I lost weight on Prozac when I first started it, but I am

currently about 20 lbs overweight now.
