Guest guest
I've been on lex 10 mg for 10 days now. I'm also on wellbutrin 400mg a day for depression, and have been on that for months. So far I'm cautiously optimistic about my improvement, but I'm really unhappy with the sexual side effects .....(d-e-l-a-y-e-d orgasm, low libido) although I had low libido from depression to start with, so I can't really blame it on the med. I am a female, and I've read that there are some meds that may help the sexual side effects, but my doc didn't seem to know of anything that might help. I have my follow-up visit in about a week, and I'd like to go in there with some knowledge about this. Has anyone heard of anything that can help? I'm open to just about anything (herbal over-the-counter products, perscription meds, etc.). Thanks in advance for any help, Patty
Guest guest
The drug addition I've heard of for the sexual sides you're already taking; Wellbutrin. There may be others to try and other people here have tried them. You might want give it a couple three weeks before you decide the Lex is causing the sexual sides. This will allow the med and any side effects to stablise. In this amount of time you should begin to feel better and if that's causing the sexual problems they should improve at the same time. Then if it is the Lex you'll know it. Have to be careful with herbal remedies being mixed with the Lex and Wellbutrin. Always do your research and if there's any question don't use whatever it is you're going to use. Check with your doctor as well. Barbara I'm new to lex. Guest guest
DO NOT mix ANY herbal meds with Lex or WB!! WB is given to combat the tiredness & lack of libido. delayed O is more common in men from Lex... I have jsut started WB and cut down the Lex to 1/4 pill... 1/2 pill of WB too... SMALL DOSES for me only! - I have learned the hard way... too sensitive to these meds. High Blood Pressure has returned for me on Lex as well.... Oy. ALWAYS tired from it too. Hope the WB helps... My libido and ability to have sex and have orgasms has gone up and down with each med I have been on for the past 12 years which includes Prozac, Serzone, Celexa, and now Lexapro. I took Wellbutrin (marketed as Zyban to quit smoking) for about 12 weeks (150mg, twice a day) and while it had a remarkable effect on my cravings for cigarettes (I am still smoke- free after 6 months), it did nothing for my sex drive at all. Most doctors with whom I have had experience regarding antidepression meds and their side effects have been almost wholly unsympathetic, only saying, " that's the way it is, there is nothing you can do about it, choose sex or choose depression. " I adamantly refuse to take that " either/or " attitude. Viagra and Levitras for men, while not sexual stimulants may help with erectile dysfunction and orgasm (I've heard anecdotes that viagra may even be good for women, by increasing blood supply to the clitoris) and give men a psychological boost. Unfortunately this doesn't help you being female. I've also heard anecdotes (some coming from 's great book, The Noonday Demon: An Atlas of Depression, that Ritalin and Adderall have been successfully used to stimulate sex drive and counter the sex-dampening effects of antidepression drugs like Lexapro. Unfortunately, Ritalin and Adderall have a potential for psychological dependence. Doctors are hestitant to prescribe them for this reason. I obtained some Ritalin recently from an " unorthodox " (not legal prescription) source, and have been taking 20mg a day for about a week and I have noticed some increase in sex drive, but it also makes me a little nervous. My only other experiences have been with Ginko Biloba (no effect), and Yohimbe. I took about 15mg (the therapeutic dose is 15-30mg) of Yohimbe and got an extremely hard erection and a very long, intense orgasm, but it was accompanied by an all-over stimulant effect that felt like I had had 40 cups of coffee. Quite unplesasant and not worth repeating. I don't know about you, but sex is important to me and personally I'd take the risks involved to feel even half-myself before depression hit and such drugs as Lexapro became necessary. If your doctor doesn't want to try things like Ritalin or Adderall to combat the sex- dampening effects of Lexapro, my two cents is to find one who will. Just be sure to take it as directed, and if you're prone to addiction (like myself, 10 years sober) be extra careful. Hang in there. Peace,
