I have had severe jaw clenching and grinding my teeth on some ssris and developed DIRECT headaches as a result. The headaches were severe and I never ever get headaches. A dentist gave me a mouth guard and it was a life saver.I wore it to sleep every night for about 10 years. I ground worst in my sleep and clenched also, but one can wear it during the day too, although I suppose if you are working outside the house this might be awkward, but it was a HUGE LIFE SAVER. THAT mouth guard SAVED MY LIFE!!!! I never had a headache again. Now on an SSRI if I get a headache, even if I am not aware of any clenching or grinding, I race to that mouth guard. See your dentist. They help so much. SSRI'S DO MAKE some people clenching their jaw/teeth and grind their teeth, although not all docs are familiar with this as a side effect. It is called " bruxism(SP?). Many won't acknowledge this side effect but I have seen some of the best who are familiar with this side effect. Hope this helps.I clenched badly on fluvoxamine. kabster@... Guest guest
Hi ~ ~ I think it is great that your medication is working well for you and that you are benefiting from it. How about having a dentist make you a night guard to insert over your teeth at night to help with the teeth clenching? I do that at night and all during the day and believe me I understand the headaches that arise out of that. I experimented with it, first, by purchasing one of those mouth guards that you can get at a sports store that the football players use. It is very bulky and does not fit like the appliance a dentist could do for you, but it will give you an idea and might immediately iliviate some of your pain. Also, when I first stopped smoking I started that clenching thing. So, I put a pencil sideways in my mouth during the times when it was getting worse and I could clamp down on that and that seemed to help. The Risperdol makes my muscles very rigid and so I can't take it for very long. I have found that there is another medication that I used to take that countered some of the sides of Risperdol. Thinking that it is the Risperdol that may be causing this. Dana Rose > Awhile back my doctor took me off of Lexapro and then put me on paxil > cr and risperdal. Guest guest
Thanks for the advice. So far I think it was just this weekend that had been bad. Maybe it was more stress at the time. It's better now than before and at least it's tolerable for the moment, especially when I catch myself doing it and then try to keep myself from clenchig. Yawning helps a little bit as well. I'll ask the doctor the next time I see him, though. Also, I'm not sure what my medical aide card will take care of as far as the dentist, plus I know there's a limit to medications and doctors I can see using it. I just don't know what the limit is. Anyways thanks again. > > Awhile back my doctor took me off of Lexapro and then put me on > paxil > > cr and risperdal. Guest guest
Try going to a sports shop and asking for those mouth inserts (they are rubber) and try it and see how it does, it does extend your jaw a little, sorta like yawning. I keep my handy when I feel that tightness around my jaw and down the back of my neck, I pop it in and with Advil, mineral ice and a little ice (no heat, ever) I can fly through it. Hope this helps you avoid that pain !!!! Dana Rose > > > Awhile back my doctor took me off of Lexapro and then put me on > > paxil > > > cr and risperdal.
