Guest guest
From: Ilana [mailto:Ilana.@...] Sent: Wednesday, September 14, 2005 4:08 PM Ilana Subject: ActionAid: New Macro Policies Needed for Education, Health and Fighting HIV/AIDS Dear Colleagues: ActionAid International offers 2 new related reports about macroeconomic policies as they relate to the need for scaling-up public expenditures to meet the Millennium Development Goals, health and education for all, and to fight effectively against HIV/AIDS. The first report, “Changing Course: The Need For New Macroeconomic Policies to Fight HIV/AIDS and Achieve National Economic Development” by ActionAid International USA, is directed at the national and international networks of HIV/AIDS, health and education advocates and explores ideas for more expansionary alternative fiscal and monetary policies being proposed by economists to significantly increase long-term public investments in health and education. Changing Course is available at: http://www.actionaidusa.org/pdf/Changing%20Course%20Report.pdf This report is being released along with a companion study by ActionAid International, with the support of the Global Campaign for Education, called, “Contradicting Commitments: How the Achievement of Education for All is Being Undermined by the International Monetary Fund” It is available at: http://www.actionaidusa.org/pdf/ContradictingCommit8663C.pdf ActionAid International plans to continue to work in this area over the upcoming year, encouraging education, HIV/AIDS and health activists to engage with their Ministries of Finance and Central Banks on alternative macroeconomic policies that can allow education and health goals to be achieved. If you are interested in participating in follow up work on these issues please let us know. As always we welcome comments on the reports. Sincerely, Ilana Program Assistant Action Aid International USA 1112 16th Street NW, Suite 540 Washington, DC 20036 202-835-1240 ilana.solomon@... www.actionaidusa.org
