Hello Everyone!

Hello, I just wanted to introduce myself, y'all seem like a great group that

I would love to be a part of. I am a mother of 2 (girl-5, and boy-almost

3), and have been married almost 6 years. I work as a permanent substitute

in the Pre-K in a small town in Texas (which I LOVE!) I am also working on

a degree in Early Childhood Education, AND we are finishing a house that we

built over the past year, so I am busy busy! I did BFL a little over a year

ago, and was VERY PLEASED with my fitness level, but when you stop working

out and start eating crap you can't expect to stay all buff and everything!!

So, after watching myself gain back almost 20 pounds (yikes!!) ENOUGH IS

ENOUGH!! I am not making any more excuses about no time, and I am going to

do this, and stay with it FOR LIFE this time!!!!!!! (I might need some of

you to kick my butt sometimes though!!)

I plan to start a new challenge on Monday, anyone else starting then? I get

to do my lovely before measurements and pictures (yuck!!) this weekend. I

will be working out at home, but I know I can do it, as I've done it before.

Thanks for all the motivation!

1.

Look in the FILES and LINKS section of the group.

Read everything there.

2.

Do a search through the archived postings for things of interest to you,

eg., diet, asa desensitization, drugs, etc.

3.

If you have specific questions after 1. and 2., ask them in a post, and

you'll surely get lots of information.

Dear Abbey,

Welcome to our group!

Dear Bob and Abbey, I think you both have made a very good case that diet

is a huge key to this illness! We need to find the answer without

starving!

There was a huge thread on this all summer. You may want to look back in

the messages.

Hello Everyone!

Hi, my name is na Arteta. I have Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type

II and use a motorized wheelchair since I was six. Before that I

used a regular chair but had a very hard time getting around. I

have very little arm strength and have recently lost much of my

right hand strength. I am guessing that this is due to my lack of

using it since I finished my BA in Psych two years ago and have not

been typing or writing much. I am 26 years old and have been living

with my boyfriend for six years. We have a wonderful relationship.

He is great to me and helps me in everything imaginable. I took

some time off after finishing school and have been babysitting for

my sister while she completes a Medical Assistant training course.

She will be done this year and I will then search for employment and

go back to school to earn my Masters. In the meantime, I enjoy my

niece and two nephews as much as possible. We all live in the same

house in the Bronx, NY. My siter, my boyfriend, and I get along

great but will probably be selling the house, which belonged to my

parents a very long time ago, soon. We want to move to a better

place, probably another state.

I was referred to this group by some members of the FSMA

website after posting a message regarding women with SMA having

babies. I don't know many people with SMA, except for my best

friend and her brother, who have Type I. She recently had a baby

last year, going against her doctors' advice of course, and has

recovered wonderfully. She has lost a bit of strength, making it

more difficult for her to walk fast or climb stairs but nothing

major, thank God. I was really surprised because doctors had

predicted she would become wheelchair bound by the sixth month of

her pregnancy and yet she never did. I love children and would give

anything to have at least one with my partner but have been greatly

discouraged by physicians. My boyfriend and I have discussed all

possible scenarios. We have discussed going ahead with it anyway

but are afraid to be risking my life or the life of our baby. We

have also discussed adoption and surrogacy (although extremely

expensive)but don't know where to begin. We have researched a bit

and have found alot of information indicating that adoption agencies

rarely ever work with couples where one of the potential parents is

disabled (especially if it is the mom) and as many of you may

understand, not being able to change, feed, or just carry a baby on

my own makes me " unfit " in the eyes of many people. Surrogacy seems

like a good option but we live in NY and from what I gather it is

illegal here. It is also extremely expensive but at least we

wouldn't have to find a gestational carrier since my siter is

willing to carry the baby if possible. We really don't if this

would be a possibility or where to go from here.

It would be really nice to hear from any of you who have been

through similar situtations or who have gone against the odds and

had children. I would love to meet others with SMA and share

experiences. I really want to feel that I am not alone and that it

is not " wrong or impossible " to become a parent with SMA Type II. I

must confess that the negativity that I have encountered every tine

I even mention of my desire to become a parent has sometimes made me

wonder if it is meant to be. To just give you an idea of what I

have faced, about six and a half years ago I agreed to have blood

drawn for a study when visiting my MDA clinic. The doctor who was

drawing my blood, and in charge of the study, began asking me what I

did for fun, hobbies, etc.. When I explained that I did not have

much time for fun because I was in college working towards my BA and

he asked me why! He said " Even with your disease you want to become

a psychologist? You should go out and have fun, enjoy life not work

so hard. " As if I would die soon anyway!!! Well that was just the

most extreme of my experiences but horrible nonetheless.

Well I have typed enough for now :-), I hope to hear from you soon.

I really look foward to it.

Sorry it took me so long to respond to your post. It's been a crazy

summer for my family and I feel like I'm just started catching up on things.

If you've perused the archives of this group, you can probably tell the

topic of pregnancy and parenting with SMA is a touchy one. But if you'd

rather converse through private email, I can do that two.

I'm a wife (married over 12 years) and the mother of two biological

daughters - Emili, age 10, and Ravyn, age 6. Originally I was diagnosed

as having SMA 1, but later was rediagnosed as type 2. I'm basically a

quad, but have some use of my right arm. My husband, thanks to the

" great " <sarcastic scowl> healthcare system, my husband is my sole

caregiver. It sucks, but no one will help pay for attendants if your

only job is being a mom. Rather than reinvent the wheel, you can get

the background scoop on my two pregnancies and birthing experiences (one

horrible, one great) by going here:

Hi Amber,

Glad that you had a good trip. Yes, I think and Zane resemble one another too!

It sure was quiet around here while you were gone Amber!! Glad you are back.

My husbands family came for Christmas, glad they are gone!!

I was pretty down in the dumps on Christmas and having 8 adults and 5 kids here didn't help. My husbands Brother and wife are Dr.'s and it is so.......OBVIOUS that they think I am overreacting about . They know nothing about Infantile Scoliosis, they think it isn't a big deal!! As soon as they all left yesterday I burst into tears. I know that they think I am being a Drama Queen! Whatever!

I had to vent, Sorry everyone I don't mean to sound like a downer But I am having alot of anxiety about these days! I am so scared! His rib hump is huge and it feels like it is getting bigger by the day. I have been so sad! I hope that I am doing the right thing by waiting until Jan 22nd to put a cast on him. My 3 year old wants me to dance with him so I gotta go.

Happy New year everyone!

Lets hope it is a good year for all of our kids!!

Hello !

My son, , is a Naturopathic Doctor on staff at Woodwinds Health

Center part of the Woodwinds Hospital Complex in Woodbury, east of St.

near Hwy 94 and 494.

His website is:

www.health-potentials.com

His phone number at Woodwinds is:

651-232-6830 Ext 606

If you visit his website, you will discover his Four Weeks to Wellness

program. If you can get someone to got to that program, they will be

changed and learned in six hours most of the information that took me 30

years and a great deal of money to learn.

You wrote:

" Do the rest of you find that you want to share your knowledge and help

others, but to most

people, you may as well be talking voodoo or witchcraft? It's crazy! "

I have learned to ask questions and tell stories based on 30 years of

research and experience in health and nutrition.

I tell people about the three FREE nutrients that over 95% of Americans

are deficient in: OXYGEN, WATER, and SUNSHINE.

OXYGEN - walk for 20 minutes twice a day.

WATER - drink 1 ounce of pure neutral pH (mineral) water for each 2 lbs

of body weight. I drink Kandiohi water with water soluble minerals

added.

SUNSHINE - get the sun on your face outdoors without hat or glasses on

for 1/2 hour between 10 am and 2 pm. The u/v rays in sunlight penetrate

through the eyes and stimulate 3 glands in front of the brain that

control over 200 bodily functions that make up the autonomic nervous

system.

Most people are dehydrated. If I see wrinkles or other evidence of

dehydration, I tell them about Dr. Batmangehlidj's website:

www.watercure.com

or I get them his audio tape, YOUR BODY'S MANY CRIES FOR WATER. It is

even more persuasive that his book with the same name.

To women with menstual cycle problems, I refer them to Dr. Lee's

info on the internet or get them his 90 minute taped lecture that will

change their life. He has three best selling books, the first one is:

WHAT YOUR DOCTOR MAY NOT HAVE TOLD YOU ABOUT MENOPAUSE.

For people that are seriously ill, I suggest they get Dr. Lorraine Day's

video, YOU CAN'T IMPROVE ON GOD, if they are Christians.

Over the years, I have sent out thousands of FREE audio tapes and

hundreds of video tapes. Now I mainly send people emails with info and

web addresses that address their problems. Tell me about a problem that

you or someone you know and care for has and I will send you some

stories and info that will help.

I have represented many MLM companies who had " sizzle " products that

helped people's bodies go into a healing mode. Most of the really

wonderful remedies that are now available in Health Food Stores and even

supermarkets were first introduced by MLM.

For example, MSM, Pycnogenol, CoQ10, Super blue Green Algae, Naturlal

Progesterone, Coral Calcium, etc. etc.

Current " sizzle " products that I am promoting are: mega digestive plant

enzymes, water soluble ionic minerals, pain removal and detoxifying

pads, Miracle mineral soap & surfactant, and energy pads that increase

stamina and endurance by over 30% without chemicals or nutrients

entering the body.

The enzymes and ionic minerals are the key to all life for everyone from

the 1.5% of Americans who are vibrantly health to those with terminal

illnesses.

Hold on tight eventually the time will come when snow is gone and flowers will come back---- I hope, we are now starting to get lousy snowy weather moving in, two inches have fallen in the past hour, so thank goodness the snowblower is primed and ready to go, i replaced the belt myself and saved a lot on that, the company who made the machine walked me through it, they recognized an amateur wh needed help desperately, a test run shows that it is working nicely now!!

We live on a hill and in the snow it is slick before the plows get out and sand it, there have been accidents going up the hill in the past, some nasty, we had a truck went through the barn, the barn suffered but broke the trucks momentum.

Now the state and not the town mans the plows things are very efficient.

Hi ,

I have been watching the weather channel. Hope that things are better there

soon. It has been bitterly cold here, and it seems as the snow storms are

coming more frequently than usual. As of yet, we haven't had a lot of ice,

which I am very thankful.

Where are you Donna, I am in Central New York and it is snowing, not bad yet and the snow blower stands at the ready when it is.

The cold is brutal though, time to cuddle with a book and the everlasting crochet!

Spring will come before we know it, just eat and relax!

I don't know why but it seemed like it was more stressful for me this year too. I was utterly exhausted the day after. I had to get up to get my daughter off to work at 5:30 then I went back to bed and slept until noon and that is late even for me.

Ann,

I am in the northeastern lower peninsula of Michigan. The weather here

really does tend to get crazy sometimes. I know that New York gets some

crazy weather too.

I am ok right now, however I know that by February, I will really have a bad

case of " Cabin Fever " !

Because of the Cabin Fever Syndrome, we always plan a special trip out in

mid-February, usually to The Call of the Wild, which is a museum with animal

replicas and sounds, plus much more.

We then drive on up to the Mighty Mac and cross over, and stop at my

husband's favorite restaurant for dinner and strawberry shortcake. We then

get a motel room and head for home after breakfast the next morning.

It really does help to beat the winter blahs!

Have a great day!

Hi ,

Glad to have you in the group. I am fairly new myself. I don't post often; but

have received so much encouragement and valuable information. Like you I was a

Pepsi addict. I am grateful that I no longer crave the stuff. I doubled up on

my b-12 and that helped tremendously with the caffeine headaches. Best of luck

and welcome.

Hello everyone!

I am new to the group. I belong to a Body for Life community on

LiveJournal and saw this club mentioned in a post there.

I am . I am 32 years old. I am married with a six year old

son. I am doing the Body for Life program for the fourth time. I

have yet to complete the entire 12 weeks. This time I will.

I am a Coca-Cola addict. In the second challenge I gave up Coke

cold-turkey and lost 15 pounds in two weeks. I hope to do the same

this time. I work for a software company that provides free soda so

this will prove difficult. Not to mention the fact that I am

beginning a caffeine headache ( I hate these things!).

Anyway, I hope to hear your suggestions and recipes. Here's to our

success!
