Guest guest Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 Hi Charla, If your husband is doing fine with one, and doesn't feel he needs hearing on both sides, then why do it? On the other hand, we have 2 ears, so we are supposed to have hearing on both sides. How does your husband feel? Does he think he needs to hear on both sides? I have but one implant, have had it for 8-1/2 years and don't feel I need another at this point. I'm not sure if your husband's current implant can be upgraded to what Bionics is offering now and down the road. Not sure what the cut off was for age of implants. Some folks can be upgraded, and others cannot. I know they are offering new things, but it depends on how old the implant is. You might check their website and see if he's able to upgrade when it becomes available. If he's not, then that might be a reason to consider implanting the other side. Did the Dr. say why he thought your husband needed a bilateral? My husband's new doctor just yesterday suggested a bilateral cochlear implant for him. He already has a successful Clarion implant from Advanced Bionics that he has had for 7 years. It is all new to us. We are starting to get info. right this minute. My husband is in a state of shock. Charla Connelley Shadduck for Ross A Shadduck Quote
