Congratulations, Tom. It is an exciting day and we never know what to

expect from our own emotions. It’s a noisy world isn’t it? <smile> Enjoy

your special day.

Subject: My Activation Day

Hi Everyone!

Today was my activation day! WOW! It sure was an emotional day even

though I told myself I was not gonna cry!! First my audie did the

usual listening for tones and checking for lowest levels and the

highest I was comfortable with. Then it was complete silence then

NOISE!!! I couldn't believe it! My body was sweating and my heartbeat

must have gone a million miles per hour! I was not prepared for the

rush of sound and emotion that came with it. This was before anyone

spoke cuz I was getting used to the background noise (fans etc).

Everything, including voices sound all different to me so far. I have

to get used to the delay between spoken voice and when I actually hear

it. Hopefully my brain will be able to process a little bit better as

time goes on as I'm not used to a delay when I wore a hearing aid.

My wife and son and I went out for lunch afterwards then I was like

Number 5 from Short Circuit.... More Input!!!! I went on a frenzy

hooking up anything I could get my hands on.... an MP3 player, stereo

hooked up to the TV, telephone (just to hear the dial tone) and

others. I'm just trying to try different things for the first time.

(And avoid the background noise which I need to get used to).

Hopefully with time the background noise (even if its just a fan or a

fridge) won't be too overwhelming!

All in all its been a interesting experience. It should be interesting

tomorrow as I work in a lab with lots of instrumentation and fans and

alarms etc.

Well, enough babbling about everything, but just wanted to mention

what my experience was and that I survived the first few hours of

activation!!

Tom,

congrats on your activation day. I remember mine activation over 3

years ago and it is indeed a very emotional day.. no matter what you

are or aren't hearing.

I must admit, even though I had good hearing results right from the

start, it was a super noisy world for the first few weeks.. very

loud. I even scared myself walking through the house and hearing

floorboards creak then laughing at when I realized what the

noise was.

I think it took me a good month or two to really adjust to the

loudness of the world, then things kind of settled in to more

tolerable levels.. Now, over 3 years later.. not much bothers me

noisewise. It will take some patience, but you'll get there.

Please let us know how you made out your first day at work.

Best wishes for smooth adjustments to the hearing world.

Warm Regards,

Silly MI

So THAT'S what a miracle sounds like!

,

That was a wonderful description of your hook-up experience. I am so

excited for you, and for me, too. Mine is two weeks from today, and I

vaccilate between elation and trepidation all the time. It is so

encouraging to read stories like yours. Thank you for sharing this, and

good luck along your pathway to hearing.

Hugs,

Marcy

I cannot BEGIN to tell you what reading this post, as well as your follow-on

one regarding your journey to the maze that is Wal-Mart (bows to retail

gods) did for me - I was quite literally teary-eyed reading about your

experiences hearing your children. often says he wants the first

thing I hear upon activation to be (my oldest - 3 and a half years

old) saying, " I love you Mom " - which says ALL THE TIME... with such

emotion and sincerity in his face that I can only imagine what it sounds

like in his sweet voice.

Thank you for this - bless you!!!

Congratulation on your activation and I am glad you can hear better now. Do

you have one for each ear? I am planning to get another CI for my left ear.

The implant on my right side, Freedom, was the one I had activated. I

was very successful with the 3G on the left side. Larry

Congratulations, Larry. You deserved this. I'm glad you had such a

special day and look forward to reading more from you. This must have

been a special day for Sharon too.

Thats excellent news, Larry. I'm glad you chose IMO, the sensible and

non litigious way out of the problem. The legal route could have

dragged on for years with no one wanting to take responsibility. Common

sense prevails.....sometimes :-).

good morning, Alice,

Thank you and everyone else for the support. I will go for further

mappings next week.

My audiologist said he had never heard of a surgeon not providing an

indention for a person's implant, but that is precisely what happened to me.

I also asked him about my four consecutive days of constant hiccups and

dehydration and he told me it was the result of the anesthesia. I am so

happy the pain is over and I can look forward to better hearing. For some

reason, I am not panicky about the booth test. have a rewarding day

Hello Everyone,

Today was my activation day for my Freedom implant. It was much better

than the second time around and I had speech understanding immediately

and was able to carry on a conversation with my audiologist, Mark

Everingham, and my family. I went to see my darling Sharon at the

nursing home and listened to a CD. The music sounded very clean and

wonderful with both implants. After coming home I used the telephone

successfully with my Freedom. I'm sorry if I'm blowing my own horn, but

I'm so full of joy! Larry
