Guest guest Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 Tina, Speaking of the Nucleus devices which I am familiar with, yes we can have programs created and optimized to work effectively in different environments. The new Freedom, which I am waiting for any moment now, can hold 4 programs, each of which can be optimized to work ideally in most settings, such as restaurants. But, not knowing what device you dad has, he still is right too. Our brains will still work as they do for hearing people. It takes work but we can " learn " to hear in noisy settings, learn to block out much of that background noise. We have to focus on that effort and the more we do it, the better. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went. -- Will & Dreamer Doll (Guide Dawggie) Newport, Oregon N24C 3G 8/2000 Hookup rclark0276@... http://webpages.charter.net/dog_guide/ Quote
Guest guest Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 I SEE and I think he has the advanced bionics or the auria is what I think it is. we were still able to talk over breakfast though but I am sure he was lipreading too since I was sitting across the table. Guest guest Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 Tina, Ok, there are many folks with an AB inplant who can answer questions for those devices. They tend to hide so you may have to dangle a carrot in front of them. *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* I planted some bird seed. A bird came up. Guest guest Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 Hi Tina That is neat that you were able to meet your dad at IHOP. There are some things that I hope you can share with us - how long has your dad had his device? What is his hearing history? Regardless to the device people can find restaraunts noisy on occasions. It's a whole new world of sound when we go from deafness (which we all are when we get a CI) to the world of hearing with a CI. I'm an AB CI user and just like with any other device (hearing aid or different brands of CI) the audiologist can make special programs or add features to help with troubling areas that one has in their lives. I'm sure if your father works with his auriologist; a program can help. But one also needs to remember that learning to hear takes practice and patience regardless to the device Kim B Advanced Bionics CI user > > I SEE and I think he has the advanced bionics or the auria is what I think > it is. we were still able to talk over breakfast though but I am sure he was > lipreading too since I was sitting across the table. > Re: just curious the ci programs' set up > > > > Tina, > > Speaking of the Nucleus devices which I am familiar with, yes we can > > have programs created and optimized to work effectively in different > > environments. Guest guest Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 , I honestly believe that if Kim had said something like that about Cochlear users, you, as list moderator, would be one of the first of many Cochlear users to jump on her for trying to start a brand war. That is very likely the reason that there are less AB users frequently posting on this list. Just my opinion. Jane Re: Re: just curious the ci programs' set up Kim, I'm sorry, you dont like carrots? Guest guest Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 Hi he got his ci in december of 2004 and is doing very well actually he'd just said no programs had helped him but he isn't known exactly for being patient. He has otosclerosis as do I only mine started much later than his, and my grandma has it, but is doing fine at 81 i think with 2 hearing aids. He is the only person in the family with a ci . He does well can talk on the phone even a cell much easier than before the ci, but I'd just wondered. Ithink too he just wants to use the minumum of stuff so, no fm system or other toys he'll just have my stepmom repeat something if he needs it, or he'll just have the person he's talking with repeat it. Guest guest Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 Jane, A sense of humor goes a long ways. My comment was meant to be humorous and if it was not taken that way, well, all I can say is, what can I say? *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* I intend to live forever -- so far, so good. -- & Dreamer Doll (Guide Dawggie) Newport, Oregon N24C 3G 8/2000 Hookup rclark0276@... http://webpages.charter.net/dog_guide/ Quote
Guest guest Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 Does the AB device affect ones sense of humour, Kim? had a smiley on the end of his message and it did bring you out of the woodwork :-) <--- thats a smiley too. Lighten up, is my advice. Ted F. > > > > Tina, > > Ok, there are many folks with an AB inplant who can answer > > questions for those devices. Guest guest Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 For crying out loud, some of you want to get a humour transplant. Or a personality transplant. How many scriptwriters did Bob Hope have? Ted F. > > Jane, > > Sad to day, but you may have hit the nail on the head with your > observation. > Quote
