Patsy and ,

There are some on this list who dont write proper English, are we going

to " correct " them too? Of course not, its not our place to do so let alone

criticize heir writing skills.

There are those of us that English is not our primary language. This is an

international forum after all. Can you write in another language without a

few mistakes or even attempt another language? If you would care to converse

in French, I will be happy to correct your grammar. Now your accent is

altogether a different game. We, French, are such snobs when it comes to

poor pronunciation......I'm really very grateful for my bilateral CI. They

allow me to pick up on accents and to converse with ease.

D,

Oui, I will like to learn French, since I am part French, if that is

what it takes to become a snob. LOL Yes, it really does not matter how

good or bad our writing skills are, tho it may frustrate some of us trying

to understand it. But that is not enough to be critical of others. To be

critical of others is to judge them based on their circumstances that is

beyond their control, that is, growing up with parents who are not

motivated, etc.

I read a great deal when younger and that is why my writing skills are

as good as they are. It is appalling how so many people cannot even talk

proper English. I watch a few of the tv court shows and its amazing how

poorly many people speak. And sadly, there are NO connections to race or

gender.

When I have a kid, I want to buy one of those strollers for twins. Then put

the kid in and run around, looking frantic. When he gets older, I'd tell him

he used to have a brother, but he didn't obey.

Is the problem handwriting? My son used to have a hard time with both handwiting and coming up with ideas (would not take ideas it had to be his idea). I remember the struggles. What finally helped was scribing and later Alphasmart. For My 14 year old  AS the duel program of handwriting and coming up with ideas was a nightmare with homework.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with writing strategies that have helped aspergers kids learn how to write.------------------------------------

He definitely has some handwriting issues. He does get help with scribing, and

he has access to an alphasmart or computers. There are also some cool apps that

allow you to write directly on an iPad. However, he still has a huge problem

coming up with ideas of what to write about. Even when he is told to write

about something concrete, he will still have a hard time.

(what's with the s window?)

Hi ,

My son is nearly 12 and has struggled with writing since day 1. We have done

all sorts of things and it's still a huge challenge, although vision therapy did

make a bit of a difference.

Recently, his school showed him a program called Dragon (I think?) where a

person simply dictates and the computer types it out and the computer can be

taught to get better with time. We did get him this program a few years ago,

but the technology was just not that great. I think there's still room for

improvement but it seems to be the way of the future.

We are only in the beginning stages of using this newer program so I can't

really tell you that much about it, but I thought I'd mention it.

So my son, who is 13, also really struggles with writing. And while he does use an Alpha Smart and scribing as well, they still are pushing him to learn to write...which, of course, causes behavior in him.

How do we get past this? They are working with him to space correctly between letters and words but that takes a long time when the thought is in his head NOW. He simply cannot write as fast as he can think.

So for those with older students, what has been done for note taking, etc.? My son simply "checks out" if the teacher is going to fast for him to comprehend and write. What can be done to help with this?

Also, my son just got the opportunity to try the Dragon Naturally Speaking program for the Ipad yesterday. But how can this help in a class where there are other students quietly writing?
