Guest guest
Hi Zora, Since you live in Africa but were implanted in Canada, I'm curious as to how many mappings you've had. Because you should have had several in the first few months you were implanted. NOT just one. But that's what it sounds like from your posting. Hope that's not the case. Let us know if you had several mappings, and even if you did at first, it might well be time for another mapping to help you hear better. My name is Zohra Damji, and I am 16 years, and I have a Nucleus 24 Cochlear Implant. I am from Tanzania, East Africa. I have been deaf since birth, and my deafness was ranged at 90 dB in both ears, and it got worser as I grew up. During this period, I was getting new and powerful hearing aids to be able to hear. I relied on lipreading heavily, and I couldn't make out the speech, and people had to call my name really loudly for me to respond. Hearing aids were not a help to me at all. Then I visited Cubex, in UK, and they recommended me to have CI, for they said that hearing aids wont help me anymore, for my deafness was really bad. Then I went to Toronto, Canada, in the Hospital for Sick Kids, and I became a candidate for the implant, after some auditory testings. My first hearing (MAPping) with the implant, was kind of scary, for the noises were loud and somewhat different. Now, I have become used to it, and all the sounds are OK for me. I have been wearing the Implant for 2 years till now, and I am aiming to hear more than lipread! ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand!
