Guest guest Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 Hi , Part of your skull is routed out in order to seat the internal part of the implant. The part where the magnet is. So there is some routing out of the skull. Then the electrode array is fed in the cochlea itself. Some surgeons sew the implant into place there. Then the skin is sewn back together, so the implant is actually inside a bit of the skull that was routed out. When the bones grow again, sometimes it pushes the implant out and you can feel it with your hand. Am I grossing anyone out yet? So, it is under the skin, and nestled inside the bone of your skull, but not under the skull at all. Those of us with thick skulls are at an advantage here!! Actually it's thin enough that it's not usually a problem. Can't wait to hear about the tune up!! Nucleus Volunteer Cherry thinks his implant is under his skin. looking for a diagram and explaination for him now. even though we've seen the pics in all the video and books, but i do see it thought that it's not under the bone. ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand!
