I don't know how to reply to a member privately without trying to copy their email address from the Properties drop down list. Will you please enlighten me? Les G As I See It OK..I'm going to stick my neck out here and post a few words about what seems to be happening in the CI internet list world right now. Oversensitivites are beginning to errupt again and it's something we need to work hard to curb. When a user of one type of implant boasts about the great hearing they are achieving with their implant some of us feel threatened by the post and respond with what seems to be a counter attack. We forget that we are on the same side and begin to act as if we are competing for the top prize. Those of us who have achieved successful results with our implants have already won the top prize..no matter which type of implant we use. Some of us are still reaching out for that top prize and working hard to win it. This happens with all implant types as it's an individual accomplishment. It's a given that some people will do better than others, no matter which implant they use. It is also a given that many individuals will be happy with their achievements while others will keep reaching out for more. Once a person has chosen their implant and have achieved success, loyalty to the brand becomes imbedded in their hearts. This is the way it should be because the individual needs to feel that bond of confidence. When someone else comes along with another brand doing well, telling us how much their brand offers, we seem to retreat to feeling threatened by that person rather than stopping and thinking that this too is good and celebrating with them. I would like to make a suggestion and hope everyone will think about this as they share their experiences. Since this is a support list for people with cochlear implants, let's discontinue adding the brand name with your signature. Let's try to create a team effort to help one another - across brands. Could we look upon each other as comrades rather than the opposites? Can we share our experiences and support new members without any feelings of competition? Could we discontinue the private onslaught of newbies starting out on this journey telling them that we have the best to offer and let them make their own decisions based on their own personal needs? It's quite disturbing when I receive private mail from individuals telling me that they've been advised by listmembers privately that there really is no choice and that the other brands are bad choices. Sharing the good of yours without tearing down the other implant types is the way to help them make their own decision. If they are driven by what you say and things are not as they had hoped when all is said and done - they will blame you. They need to make this choice on their own. This group has a lot of very positive energy that needs to be shifted in the right direction. Advocate for individuals with hearing loss - and that should be all ages. Be active in groups and state associations that work with those with hearing loss. We have so much to offer. We can also offer it here. Make friends - not enemies. We're all on the same wave length. If you are unhappy with a post that you see here, please address that with the individual privately. Unfortunately, I have been guilty of not doing this myself and will make a firm attempt at changing that. This is a great group. I am thrilled to associate with all of you and feel that you play a very special part in my life. I look forward to reading your posts. Guest guest Posted April 9, 2004 Report Share Posted April 9, 2004 alice. your message is right on... lets just all help each other on this journey. we will all take different steps and make differnt choicesbut we all want to arrive at the same place.... just improved hearing however we can get it. same thing with bwp and bte. lets not get into wars about that either. there are so many choices nowadays adn we are all so different with different personalities and hearing histories and lifestyles. lets just share our own personal experiences and without stepping over boundaries and get into a " you should ... " mode. i know that is hard sometimes but we have a great mature postive group. lets be a big inclusive and respectful group. that is something that we can offer that is very special and hard to find in todays world. thank to evveryone for their support. i enjoy reading from each and everyone of you. i couldnt have gone thrugh this without all of you...thanks!! jb joni Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I am happy for those that are having so much luck with whichever they picked. I also always prefer to just put my name and state as a sig most of the time.
