Yes, we have the best of both worlds - I too have saved myself time in line by going to exit and showing my card and asking for the hand search!

I have been able to walk through without a problem at the airports - mine too is implanted under the muscle. I keep my ICD card out, but have not had to show it. I did use the card one time and was able to go around the security line at the cruise ship in Galveston - saved me a couple of hours in line! Should have tried it an hour earlier and saved 3 hours in line!

Hi ,

I agree on the going overboard with security. I was showing a couple

of audiologist how to do some self defense with things you ordinarily

carry with you. Car keys, a comb, etc. If you know what you are doing,

anything can be a weapon.

I've not been stopped in the 7 years I've been implanted, but I always

request a hand screening, too. Because I am NOT taking the processor off

and running it through the X ray machine.

We need some kind of balance between security and silliness.

.. I

understand the need for additional security, but oh boy, I think they

have

gone way overboard. They are not very effective anyway, as a lot

of " investigative " reporters have shown in the media.

I've only had the hand screening done when security requested...once

or twice. Probably I was the " XXth " person to automatically get

wanded. Didn't really bother me...I just rolled my eyes at the drama

of it all. Funny story...two buddies of mine flew to Vegas last year

and took only carryon baggage. Before they got to the airport, one

buddy opened the other's bag and stuffed in a few pairs of " fuzzy "

women's thong underwear. The other guy always gets his baggage

searched because he is Italian and looks kinda middle-eastern. The

screeners had a heckuva laugh over that one, and the one buddy was a

bit embarrased, to say the least, LOL!

I just leave my processor on and walk thru the metal detector. No

problems. I have put my BWP (backup) thru x-ray several times with

carryon luggage. No problems there either. If it makes it thru

LaGuardia, it'll probably make it anywhere!
