Guest guest
Sam, You will be fine and Good Luck! Please post as soon as you can because we are going to be waiting to hear from you. Remember - there is no time requirement for this to work for you. Tomorrow may be a huge success or it could be the first step of the ladder. Either way, tomorrow will be better than today. BTW - Clarity is one thing I can promise you...it's much better than with the hearing aid. Alice > > Many thanks for your wishes. Just one more day. Guest guest
Sam, The first map is not usually good at all. I had a second map the day after the first. With the second mapping I was so excited to hear the clock tic-toc, so you are ahead of me there. When they turned me on the first day, and I didn't hear much, I just remembered that I read somewhere that almost all people who are implanted will like it better than their HA within a month and so I just enjoyed any sound that I did hear. I was able to understand some words, but it might have been more lip reading than hearing. more mappings and time for your brain to get use to the new way of hearing will make a big difference. Keep us updated. May > Hi Alice and all, > > Well, today was my hook up day. As I feared, all I've gotten so far is a > bunch of static and beeps. Guest guest
Sam......this is a second reply to your message. For some reason my first reply didn't take and you got a blank email! Okay....your first mapping was very normal and very similar to my original mapping. You're gettting all the strange noises because of the narrow range you're trying to hear sounds with, i.e. your C and T levels are very close to being the same and doesn't allow the sounds the full range they need. Consequently you're living in Star Wars much like the robot, R2D2! Your next mapping will widen the range as your brain adapts to the increased loudness and stimulation of the hearing nerve that you've been missing for so long. Just let yourself acknowledge you do hear a sound and may, or may not, be able to identify it right away. That will come in time.....so relax and know you CAN hear and that the implant is working. Now is the beginning of the " uphill " part to relearn those sounds and come into the hearing world again. Congratulations on your activatiion and I know you'll soon hear the benefits. --Gayle > Hi Alice and all, > > Well, today was my hook up day.
