Guest guest
Hello everyone. Well I am back from Mexico. I had my surgery on the 20th. I met so many nice people. I am just having some trouble adjusting right now. I am still in a lot of pain, and my back is hurting tremendously! I can't sleep at night, and I feel hungry all of the time. Is all of this normal, or somehting going wrong with me? I don't know why I feel so hungry. Even in the hospital, I was hungry. I still get the awful pains I had before surgery when I was hungry. My stomach just roars out loud, and I still get the very bad pains along with it. Please help, I don't know what to do, and I haven't had one minute out of these six days where I can honestly say I have felt good. Does everybody else feel this bad post-op? Thank you for your help in this matter. Ruth
Guest guest
Ruth... How much exercise are you getting? By exercise I don't mean a work out ;o) I mean just walking. Exactly how many grams of protein are you getting daily and from what source? Are you using GasX? A heating pad? Did Dr. A repair a hiatal hernia by any chance during your surgery? Guest guest
--- Hi Ruth! I know when I got banded Dec. 11th, 06, I also experienced the severe back pain. I thought I could hardly stand it. I never had the left shoulder pain everyone talks about though. I kept heating pad on my back & just walk around the house as much as possible. It was awful though, so I know how you feel. I also get severe stomach pains when I'm hungry or when I'm on or go back to the clear liquid, after my fill. It does hurt bad. I just tried to keep something in my stomach at all times, usually warm liquids were more helpful. That does help quite a bit, rather than when you get empty. I also kept the liquid tylenol in me. It will pass before too long. I promise. It's not fun, but it will be over before you know it. Hang in there. Cheryl In , " Ruth wheeler " <ruth@...> wrote: > > Hello everyone. Guest guest
I have been five days now on the steroids and find that my face is slowly changing back to normal . But it is very slow, yet there is some feeling that it is changing . I was fitted with my processor yesterday and had switch on . I am finding that I cannot understand what I am hearing , it is all high pitches and whistles, But I am noticing things like hearing this morning someone walking across the carpet with slippers and the beep sounding with that . So it makes me notice and match where the sound is coming from . Will this change?? I realize I am hearing in monotone and that my voice sounds robotic ,will I be hearing music again ??? With melodies?? I have to go back to my audiologist tomorrow for more mapping . Cheers from Australia , Marco > > > > > > sounds like there may be some facial nerve involvement..... > > > > That's what I was thinking, too. That is a possibility with CI surgery. Guest guest
Indeed, this is normal and will get better. Its amazing what the brain can do as it adapts to the new sounds. It will take time but in the beginning you should notice a lot of change. Quote of the nanosecond... Guest guest
I had hoped for instant speech recognition but found voices indidstinguishable from each other for awhile and, while I could understand slow, simple speech it was difficult with everyone sounding like cartoon characters. That soon wore off and I was able to distinguish between speakers. I guess it's taken a couple of years for speech to sound " normal. With so few contact points I think it's a wonder that I understand as well as I do. Virg >I have been five days now on the steroids and find that my face is slowly >changing back to normal . Guest guest
Hi Marco! You typed some great observations about how you're hearing. Be sure to write down your observations and show them to your audie. Observations will help your audie map you better. With time and more mappings it should keep on getting better! I still remember the first time I heard footsteps going down the cellar steps. To me, it sounded like guitar strings being plucked. The brain truly is amazing. Unless you once heard the sound, it won't recognize it right away hence the high pitches and whistles. I had a lot of noise in my head the first 3 months after my hook up! Then speech distintion started kicking in for me after I realized I could not stand my youngest sister's voice. She is high pitched. I also heard too much hissing when " s " words were said and I could not hear the letter " c " . My audie mapped me to round out the edges of the highs and the lows and speech distinction started kicking in for me. I heard my name being called from behind me that very afternoon for the first time in my whole life! Hang in there. Think baby steps. Keep writing down observations of how you are hearing and what you know you are missing. And keep on posting! Good luck to you! Patti Surgery Day 11/25/02 (What A Day!) Guest guest
Hello , Yes its been day six on the steroids and still my face is slowly getting better , it is a slow healing - gradual loosening of the muscle is what I am experiencing . But now I am getting concerned that it is not happening fast enough .It is good to know that there are others who can inform me through their past experiences . How long did it take to resemble back to normal for you ? I am starting to day to actively work on getting these muscles alive again. I have been knocked around taking so much more medication than I usually have after the op so I became sedentary.Yesterday I spent the train trip massaging my face , I did not care about other people looking. This is too important to just leave alone. On my third day now with this implant switched on . Just yesterday I had further mapping , the softest sound and the loudest most comfortable sound , and I showed the Audiologist my written notes about how I am recognizing sounds due to Patti's advice. So far as I said mostly whistling and high pitches , but there comes some sounds that come through with half whistle/beeps plus the actual sound . Like for example the click sound that comes from the mouse , for the first time I noticed that sound clearly, and the tapping sound of the keyboard became a real " tap tap tap " sound !I also heard for first time my audie 's voice speech in high pitch sound which was very strange indeed.Robotic for me and very monotonous. If anyone else experienced facial nerve inflammation or Bells palsy , please share if you would. Is it actually called Bells Palsy ? Because my surgeon did not say that, he just said my facial nerve is inflamed and put me straight on steroids. Cheers and thanks , Marco from Australia. > > > > I have been five days now on the steroids and find that my face is slowly changing back to normal .
