Gayla, The beets can stay in the ground a long time. The slugs are probably gone. To stay warm in bed, you can put cayenne in your socks. Heard it warms the whole body. Let us know. Enjoy your

soup. I gotta work tonight at our local events so have to quickly make it to my car in the freezing weather. Today warm, but who knows what tonight brings. Stay warm. Actually, I will start soon with something healthy for lunch - hot but healthy. I am freezing right now. I am going to put some beans to soaking and figure out how to eat a healthy lunch back in bed with my electric blankie and my lingering cold. I have a great recipe from Russia for walnut sauce - I think I will adapt it to a vegan recipe and see what I can throw it on for tomorrow. Thankfully all the really "bad" stuff is gone - we did not bring any home-made pumpkin cheesecake from my sister's house! Aren't I good????? <VBG> Yeah, my mother is a pretty cute cookie, isn't

she? I also liked the one about asking her dr if he ate 5 vegetables a day. Actually, she really does eat that many veggies. We grew up on lots of veggies because they were cheaper than meat. Whole grains, too, because she knew they had more nutrition for the buck than empty white bread, etc. Meat was almost rationed, but we could eat fruit any time we wanted. And we ate seasonally because it was cheaper. It took me years before I could look a pear in the face after the year pears were so cheap. I still remember the lug of them looking at us and we had to eat them because they were the available food. We had borscht for a whole week once for dinner - that was what we had in the budget. I still love it. I never got sick of that. Hmmm - that reminds me - I better go see if there are any beets remaining in the garden and get them before the slugs do. Gayla - another laughing fit "I don't inhale deeply"!! That's like when my brother went to treatment for alcohol addiction and my mother told me he wasn't as bad an alcoholic as I was. I asked her "Is that like being 'sort of' pregnant, he's sort of an alcoholic?" That was good for her not to talk to me for a week! Either you smoke or you don't. Either you drink or you don't. Either your pants fit or they don't. I'm in the latter category these days! So, Gayla, what are we going to do to make our pants fit? Shari
