Guest guest
> > Is there any reason why i couldnt use 'i have this problem issue > AND i deeply and completely accept myself'? Short answer, no. > Let me explain. > > i was woking on myself before, and one memory keeps coming to mind > and part of is when i got this new pair of grey suede boots. there > is more to it than that, but dont really want to go into all the > details right now. anyway, i really liked these boots. > the setup 'even though i loved those grey suede boots, i deeply and > completely accept myself' sounded wrong and didnt feel right. by > saying that its as if there is something wrong with loving those > grey suede boots by having the 'even though' part > > i had a brainwave and used 'i loved those grey suede boots and i > deeply and completely accept myself' and it felt much better. Even Craig is very flexible with set up phrases. The standard phrase is a good one and works most of the time but it's certainly not the only effective one. I can't figure out what you are trying to accomplish by tapping on boots you liked. EFT won't make good memories go away. Having nice boots doesn't seem to be a problem. The pain associated with the boots would be what you would put in your set-up phrase. Did someone make you feel bad about having those boots? Did they cause you athlete's foot? Were you embarrassed to wear them because you lived in the tropics and everybody else wore sandals? I'm glad if your setup phrase worked for you but I suspect there's something you are avoiding. > i guess if it feels right thats all that matters right? If it feels right and gets the job done that's all that matters. Bob
Guest guest
--- In EmotionalFreedomTechniques , " Bob " > > i guess > If it feels right and gets the job done that's all that matters. > > Bob I would just like to add my confirmation to this. " If it gets the job done:-) " My understanding is that the set-up phrase is to overcome what calls " Psychological Reversal " , which in my view means sending a message to the subconscious to ovecome internal resistance to healing. If you are in PR the statement may " sound right and feel right " , but may still not be effective. That is because when one is in PR everything is working backwards. Therefore I would suggest staying with the standard set-up as much as you can until you are quite sure you are not experiencing PR. There are several things one can do to overcome PR and I expect there are tips given in the files section here. Doing the " three thumps " , cross- crawl and drinking lots of water are the best ways usually. If you feel happy and positive you are quite likely in balance energy- wise! If you feel negative and skeptical then quite likely there would be PR in the meridian system. Blessings, Nels
Guest guest
Hi , > Is there any reason why i couldnt use 'i have this problem issue AND > i deeply and completely accept myself'? > Absolutely no reason why not at all. I use this form sometimes with myself or clients when the thing being tapped on isn't obviously a problem (it may or may not be). I call it the " Non-Judgement Pattern " and I find it useful in a coaching context when it's often much less clear whether a situation should be judged as " good " or " bad " . Using this kind of pattern will serve to clear any lurking negative aspects or tailenders related to the issue (or the shoes!) that MIGHT be there. Basically there is nothing magical or preordained about the standard EFT setup statement. In my opinion the value of the standard EFT setup statement is only to make it easier for people to get started and have a default statement to work with. The two important elements of EFT are: 1 - Stimulating the meridian system (via tapping, massaging, shining lasers, mentally thinking about them, whatever) 2 - Focussing on the issue. Saying words is one way of doing that. But there are many ways to cause your mind to focus on the relevant issue - thinking the words, looking at a photograph or relevant objects, seeing images in your mind, it doesn't matter. Therefore, the exact words you use does not matter at all. I think if you find a form of words that " feels better " to you then that's exactly what you should use. The EFT recipe is very adaptable to different people's preferences - the ultimate test of whether a variation is " right " or not is the level of relief it gives for the person using it. Thanks for that. a very helpful post. my varation of the setup seemed logicial to me, and the orginial didnt make sense in that instance, i thought it best to see what you guys think first, and im glad you have used this yourself. you are right, i often just tap by placing mental images, or looking at a specific word in my head. becasue this isnt taught, you are never sure if you are supposed to do it this way! your post has given me a big sigh of relief! gratefully
