Of course you realize that now that you know what various sounds are, like tires squealing, your old refrigerator, etc, you can IGNORE THEM. Yep, that's what hearing folks do. Aware of the sounds, but ignore them if they are not important. You might carry a regular disposable battery with you until you figure out how many hours you get on the rechargeables. I'd get days on the disposables, and at least a day and a half on a single rechargeable. But that varies with everyone. You also might try wearing the larger battery holder and using 2 batteries for twice as much life on them. You're off to a great start. Now, why did you name your son Beaner? I got hooked up wed. I heard every beep on all 22 electrodes.. We then went thru them a bunch of times to get the sound level of each even. I could tell the difference between the Low, Med and high frequencies.. Then he turned it on and it was AWEFUL.. I kept thinking about all the stories I read on here and did not panick.. I was hearing so i was excited! he tested me with some numbers with out being able to see his mouth and i started getting them right ) By the time we left the office i was just starting to pick up words from my Audie.. and i went out for lunch and it was very noisy.. I switched over to P2 later in the day as instructed by my Audie to try each program for 3-4 hrs.. By the end of day one i was starting to understand and my kids.. Day two i started out on P2 and did really well. I understood and the kids, My brother, My Mother and some friends.. I then went to my oldest son's varsity baseball game excited to finally hear the " sounds of the game " My processor started sounding awefull followed by beep,beep,beep.. Oh no! battery died.. I had no spare so i went back into my silent world :-) I came home and installed a new battery.. I will carry spares at ALL times from now on.. I am on P3 now and do not like it, but i am determined to give all 4 their fair share of time :-) The sounds i hear are unreal.. I hear crickets at night,the dog barking next door (Its quite far from our house) the cars roaring by the house with such loud tire noise, i hear my car make chime sounds when i turn the key before i start it, I hear the clicking when i move shift lever from park to drive, i hear turn signals, I hear our NOISY old refridgirator.. And so many other sounds I could not fit them all on here.. Last night my daughter and youngest Son Beaner read to me from one of 's books so i could practice listening.. It was great fun and i could understand very well. I am excited about my hearing for the first time in years.. I realize I have a long ways to go but i feel so good already.
