Guest guest
The tannic acid in sodas is one of the reasons. It's not good for the stomach and we have to protect these little tummies. Also, the carbonation is hard on the stomach and cause it to hurt. For me, giving up my diet Pepsi's was the hardest part, but I rarely miss them now. The tannic acid is the reason we also cannot have teas. Iced or hot. There is a Tummy Tamer that is sold online that will supposedly remove tannic acid from tea, so that is a possibility. As for the protein, it is very hard to get enough protein in our daily intake. Once you have the surgery, it's hard to get the required protein because our tummies just can't take on that much food. The protein shakes insure we get the required amount. These are all things I've learned from others and the manual, I'm not claiming to be an expert. Hope it helps! ) Suzanne H High Point Dr. R 7-17-03 270/
Guest guest
The acid that makes the carbonation is not healthy for your tender stomach or pouch. It can eat away at the scar tissue and tender areas of your pouch. Plus the bubbles tend to expand as they warm in your stomach. Gatorade is a healthy choice as it gives you alot of good stuff your body needs. It is all in the manual, maybe she should download it and read it, it answers alot of questions that anyone might have in relation to this surgery. In addition it helps folks become more knowledgable and make a better decision. It helps determine if you are willing to adapt to the new lifestyle required after this surgery, remember this surgery is not without risks and concessions. Mikee My girlfriend is looking into having MGB and has posed a couple of questions that I am unable to answer. The packet states that soda is a no no because it has no nutritional value and Dr. Rutledge would rather we drink healthy juice, but other than that she wants to know why its forbidden. I don't know why, I just know we are not supposed to have it. Does anyone know why we can't have diet or regular soda? If she eats enough protein in her diet why does she have to add whey protein to her diet? Again, I don't have the answer for this. Any suggestions? Guest guest
Hi all! The phosphyloric acid and carbonation in sodas are not good for us. The p.acid can cause ulcers in the long run and the carbonation stretches the pouch. I do not miss my diet pepsi, thank goodness, but Coffee Tamer can be used in coffee and teas to neutralize 90% of the acid. God bless! Cheryl Iowa 9/20/04 225/144/130 A perfect size 8!
