Guest guest
Hi.. I go back tomorrow for my next mapping (3d one end of 2 months) and thought I would chime in here. I have started getting use to the sound of the water and both the plastic bags and cars are better. I guess it has to do with what you get use to. I would say my first month and half were the worse. So give it some time. susan & hobbes michigan At 10:13 AM 5/27/2004 +0000, you wrote: >Robin, > I don't know all your specifics but like you water and tires on the >road are still LOUD for me after 1 map and 3 weeks of sound. Guest guest
but if you can hear over 50% of words with the first implant do they allow you a second implant? i have another question. some of my deaf freinds say they have one ear that is totally non functional that hearing aids dont even help, but on thier other ear they get enough from a hearing aid to hear on phone , to some extent. would these people qualify for a ci if they seem to be " getting by " with their better ear? joni preling
Guest guest
For those who are interested in having their 2nd side done, there is a minimum wait of 6 months between the 2 sides per protocols. this is done so that you can give the implant side a chance. The 2 sides are 10 months apart in my case. It is tuffer to get insurance getting the 2nd one approved but it can be done. The qualifications are the same as for the first. -- Snoopy bilateral RI
Guest guest
I believe they would qualify. I have profound loss but I comprehend appr. 50% However, I just make the cut off. In th elast several years they have moved the requirements down so to speak because of the ability they have found the CI to have. I am sure if they get the right doctor and persue this they will qualify. make sure they request a recorded voice for both the word list and sentence test. That made my numbers go down significantly. My doctor will implant my 2nd ear if all goes well with the first ear. Today they can also save what residual hearing we have left. I test 0 and 8% at 120 db. With the aid I test 20% recorded test at 50db. With live voice I am between 42-62% at 50 db with both aids. i hear on a phone and cell phoine with no amplification devices and I qualify. So there is hope!
