Guest guest
I usually mix a couple of spoonfuls of psyllium powder or husks into a glass of water and then drink it down. I'd also mix it with water and gulp it down. The last time I was constipated I took a tbsp. of castor oil and ate a bowl of stewed prunes. I exploded within an hour. Now I know what works when nothing else does;-). Gloria
Guest guest
Suzi, Perhaps even adding some additional oil, like olive to your fresh salads. Even cooking some pasta and on plate add some olive oil. I knew of a girl that didn't poop for quite some time and the pasta was her answer. Hope you get over the challenge quickly. Guest guest
Sure would be like pudding, just don't know if it would get too much like pudding and you wouldn't be able to swallow it after a bit. Shari
Guest guest
I usually mix a couple of spoonfuls of psyllium powder or husks into a glass of water and then drink it down. If you let it set more than a few minutes, it will thicken and, depending on how much powder to how much water, will jell. Guest guest
ok maybe I'll try this before the capsules.. at this point (since last nite)... I've had 2 ic31 capsules, 4 spoons of blackstrap molasses, a cup of dandelion/nettle tea, a second cup (later) with dandelion and cornsilk, a mango, a couple glasses of water...and a half glass of green smoothie with some olive oil. oh and a plant enzyme this morning... Still got pain it shifts from front to back. Applied some heat.. don't have any flannel on hand (got the castor oil).. THIS SUCKS... (sorry)... now I know what you all complain about with constipation... like I said I had a small bm this morning.. softer... but nothing since.. suzi Landes <L@...> wrote: I usually mix a couple of spoonfuls of psyllium powder or husks into a glass of water and then drink it down. Guest guest
Suzi, Physillium Powder works wonders and I honestly think it is the main thing in the intestinal cleanse that gets things moving. If you can find something to mix it in to drink then great. I do know some who just mix it in a little water and chug it down but I can't do that. try a little juice or a smoothie. The big thing with physillium is to drink lots and lots of water or it will clog you up more.
Guest guest
Suzi - You would be amazed to know just how general anesthesia slows down the bowel processes, too. That could be a lot of your problem. Could you also be dehydrated? Something you might try, if you can raise your arms yet, is sit on the toilet and raise your arms straight up, to lengthen out that tranverse colon. This will always help if you are in the middle of a bowel movement and just can't seem to get it all out (LOL). Grasping one wrist with the other hand and stretching and pulling up at the same time will also work. Guest guest
And putting your feet up on a small stool when you sit on the toilet. We evolved squatting our bm's and to sit horizontally on the toilet is not conducive to elimination. What said about the anesthesia, too. And any narcotic drugs you may be taking or have taken. They all slow down the bowels. Guest guest
Suzi, My other suggestion would be calling your chiropractor (or A chiro if you don't have one) and asking about your pain. My reasoning is that a lot of nerve roots and peripheral nerves were mostly likely bumped, bruised, irritated and otherwised made cranky...so it could be something along those lines. You could also do some research as to which nerve roots (at which vertebral joint) control what types of functions/organs. I just don't have our chart handy or i'd help. Not that the chiro could help at this point of your recovery, but....they may be able to answer some questions? just a thought - i'm going to go dig up my spine/nerve chart > > Anyone try dandelion for constipation? > Apparently that is my newest problem.. lol... been drinking fruit and veggie juices.. lots of water.. guess the lack of exercise, stress, poor sleep habits etc all have caught up with me due to this surgery... Guest guest
Not necessarily - i'm not a doctor but just from experience here... The swelling can impede nerve transmission as well, holding back signals, trapping them, forcing them through etc. I'm unsure of the exact effects. I just know that my digestion has changed IMMENSELY with regular chiro (and acupuncture - ooh..that might be an idea for pain regulation for now too! especially after surgery recovery) Li8ke I said I'm unsure of the exact effect that your surgery/swelling etc has had on your nerves, but it's possible for sure. Just sort of grabbing at straws for you, that's all. maybe? just thoughts Suzi, > > My other suggestion would be calling your chiropractor (or A chiro if > you don't have one) and asking about your pain. Guest guest
Sorry it took so long Suzi I have either been in class or at work (yes I got a job at the school clinic YAY). There are some good organic baby foods around, why not find some fig, prune, or plum and have yourself a little baby dessert party. Easy to swallow and will soften stool. Guest guest
Suzi, you might try this one more thing; This is an ancient practice from the East, but it has worked for me for years when I eat too much cheese or milk and become constipated. Follow this lymeric..(?) while you sit on the commode: " If you want to crap and crap with ease, Put your elbows on your knees, In your hands put your chin, Let a fort and then begin! " Relax and give it a bit of time, perhaps rocking back and forth and gently massaging the palms of your hands, especially at the inside base of the thumb, and the front of the wrists, and a bit up the front of the arm about 2 or 3 inches, remaining totally relaxed all the while except perhaps for some gentle rocking motion. Have patience. Unless the blockage is really rock hard, it will usually get the bowel tract stimulated. This is a form of accu-pessure I thik.. see 's post beblow. I agree with her that the nerves can be involved in this problem. granny lee ---- Anne <sarahlovell@...> wrote: > Not necessarily - i'm not a doctor but just from experience here... > > The swelling can impede nerve transmission as well, holding back > signals, trapping them, forcing them through etc. I'm unsure of the > exact effects.
