Our records show that the constipation correlates to the beginning of

school, and

to our use of melatonin and 5HTP given at bedtime for the past 2 weeks.

We

took out the melatonin and 5HTP tonight to see if that helps at all.

Has

anyone else had problems with melatonin and 5HTP and constipation? We

use

the 2 together because they have been more effective that way, in terms

of

helping our daughter (na) go to sleep.

Water and diet are two big factors in constipation. You

need lots of water/liquids especialy during chelation but all the time

too. Hard to get too much. Does she like prunes/chopped up prunes,

fruit? Seems helpful to some I know. I've taken melatonin and my son

5-HTP and not noticed any constipation effects. I can't think of a

possible connection though there could be one.

I agree with and Carolyn about increasing veggies, fruits and water

with or without ProEFA. Here are some tips from a previous post for those

who have trouble getting the vegetables into their child.

As a professional (SLP Oral Motor/Verbal Apraxia Specialist) and the parent of a

once picky eater..here are some hints for increasing nutritional balance to

limited diets. If your child likes pasta..make your own sauce or add to the

jarred kind the puree of healthy vegetables. Steam the vegetables first in only

a little water..then add the water and veg. to blender to puree. Mix veg.

liquid into sauce..boost spiciness of the sauce just a little with hot sauce if

you think you child will tolerate it. BUT REMEMBER..start adding a little of the

new veg. liquid at a time- say 2-4 TBSP to the 1 cup sauce. Blend and taste.

Adjust salt/flavoring to taste. You can use spinach, carrots, even broccoli.

Add nuts ground, or wheat germ boxedxed bread mixes to add fiber to diet. Or

add wheat germ to his pancakes or hot cereal if he'll eat it. Maple syrup

used disguise lots of tastes.

Sometimes having the kids help cook a meal or portion of the meal makes it

more fun to eat. I even went so far as to use cookie cutters on bone-less

chicken breasts and breaded (wheat germ + crumbs), baked and played circus with

the animals...eating legs or head to get good food into .

Take heart..Jon's almost 21 and eats almost everything..including Sushi,

salad, and something other than chicken.

Hope these ideas help.

Guys, what could I do to be more regular ? I suspect it's the thyroid issue that makes me constipated, and I'm doing coconut oil for that, altho I'm only up to about 3 tsp a day ( I'm easing myself into this as I can't afford virgin cocnut oil from the US, have to use the local ones).

Thanks

Daryl,

this may sound strange, but after I started taking flax seed oil (can take capsules or the oil itself) rich in omega 3 fatty acids my aching in the joints, bones and muscles esp. at night dramatically decreased. It just worked for me. Sounds crazy I know, maybe my joints needed lubrication or something. Its inexpensive. Can get health food stores or walmart. Prob. not as good brand at walmart, but it worked for me.

worth a shot

Fiona,

Increase your magnesium intake...magnesium has a laxative effect. You can also increase your Vit C intake to your bowel limit...you'll get diarrhea when you reach it.

Other than that, the usual suggestions are to increase your water intake, increase your fiber intake, and cut out all process, gummy foods that have white flour, white sugar, and cut back on meats, (which are fiberless). Don't take any dairy products that are pasteurized--only raw if you can. Let us know if any of these things help you.

Wishing you the best,

Patty

dear fiona

I found that Primal Defense really helped me with my irritable

bowel. I had trouble with constipation and that seemed to really

help. However, the instructions for the primal defense say that you

might get temporarily constipated while you are detoxing on it. I

wonder if the coconut oil could do the same? I know that other

detoxing for me has produced constipation. I have figured out why.

Whenever I try to detox, I get more muscle spasms. That includes in

my colon. The muscle spasms in the colon are what causes the

constipation for me. It can be a frustrating cycle. I just wait it

out because in the end, I will be better off for the detoxing. Good

luck with your problem.

Hugs,

kathy

fabyleon82,

Yes, When a gallstone is blocking the bile duct and the bile is not

flowing, it can cause constipation. After I do a liver flush I am very

constipated for a few days as the liver has to catch up in it's

production and the bile is what keeps the bowel moving. In my case, I

have no gallbladder and when I have not flushed for a while I have

constant diarrhea. But after a flush I can go several days until the

diarrhea returns. When the gallstones are blocking the ducts it causes

lack of bile but it also produces a light to whitish bowel movement if

the blockage is severe.

big green stones can cause constipation but more likely is the result

of all the morbid matter that went from the liver to the intestines

plus the fact that your liver has not been working to 100 % efficentcy

causes your intestines to need detoxification. parasites would also cause

constipation. the intestines is the first place to start on health,

if your intestines do not provide for a way to get the waste out then

your liver flush wont be as effective.

besides that your intestines is where your body absorbs food and if it

is full of poison and morbid matter then that is what is going into

your body. Orential medicine teaches your face is a view to your

intestinal condition, acne, pits, blackheads , yellowish , pale all

signs of the condition of your intestines

When my son was two, I took him to his pediatrician because he was still

having about 6-8 bowel movements per day. The doctor x-rayed him and found

out that he had a lot of fecal matter in his intestines and that the reason

he was having diarrea was because of that.

The remedy was to put him on a laxative. No more diarrea and down to one bm

a day.

Thanks, Don. I was getting really scared as on a Natural Hygiene site they were talking about constipation being an indicator of ovarian cancer and I had the human paplloma (or however you spell it) when I was 19 and that's a precurser to ovarian cancer.

I have done a couple 24 hour fasts in the last month and no, I'm not eating nuts and I've only had 2 avocados in the last month. Saturday the challenge is over and I am going to add a tablespoon of flax back into my diet just to see if it makes a difference.

A longer fast would be nice, but I really hate to fast in the summer with all the marvelous melons and berries and bountiful produce!

Thanks again - Shari

Hi Shari,

That must be some hygiene site!!! What the heck sort of hygiene are they

practicing? Truly, constipation is only an indicator of a sluggish

digestive system or a digestive system that is impaired. In all of the

Natural Hygiene books I have read, no where does it state that

constipation is an indication of Ovarian Cancer. Every human on the

face of this planet has the HPV inside of them. Every human on the face

of this planet lives in a symbiotic relationship with every bacteria,

fungi and virus that exists. There is nothing you have that GW Bush

doesn't have or I don't have or Suzi doesn't have or even Idi Amin

doesn't have coexisting inside of us.

Just a suggestion but instead of worrying about something you read or

someone says, ask questions of others, seek references, and do your own

research. It really isn't worth worrying about things that may or may

not be true or that may or may not happen. Don't live in the past or

worry about the future, life is in you today and you can only use the

past as a reference point and as far as the future goes you are creating

it right now every second that goes by.

Drink when thirsty and eat only when hungry and if you are not

hungry, truly hungry, then don't eat.

Dr. Batmanghelidi says that feeling thirsty is the final symptom of dehydration and that we should be drinking plenty of water before it gets a chance to get that stage.

It was just something I read within another message, not something I was worrying about until I saw the two connected. The discussion was revolving around what the medical field calls the "silent killers", heart disease, diabetes and ovarian cancer. The symptoms were pulled from a website about o.c.

So, an impared digestive system? That sounds very healable. I can do that by staying 100%, right? Because I can tell now when it's been too long, the fatigue is pretty fierce. Maybe that's what's wrong with most women I know that think they have chronic fatigue? It's chronic constipation! Or poor digestion.

Thanks for your down to earth writing. Helps me stay in the now and stave off the fears.

Hi Shari,

Contrary to what others may believe there is no such thing as " silent

killers " . These so called dis-eases are nothing more than our not paying

attention to the signals our bodies give us. There is certainly nothing

silent about them.

Unless, one is in the last stages of disease, your chances of healing

your digestive system are excellent, provided you remain raw, no salt,

no fractionated foods, lots of greens and fresh fruits, some nuts and

seeds. Drink when thirsty and eat only when hungry and if you are not

hungry, truly hungry, then don't eat. The myth and misconception that we

need to eat arose only because the majority of society then and now eats

dead food. No nutritional value so the body tells us it is hungry

because it is getting no nutrients. No matter how stuffed you get on

cooked food you will always be lacking the nutrients necessary to proper

function and maintenance of the human organism.

Probably a lot of diseases begin with faulty digestion, an overworked

digestive system, a malfunctioning digestive system or a toxic digestive

system. No matter what, anything you eat gets processed in the digestive

system first, mouth to anus. Only makes sense to put in natural, living

foods full of life giving nutrients, not powdered super foods as these

are not natural. Yes, a lot of fatigue can come from this but truly most

chronic fatigue is caused by choice in diet and lifestyle. What you

choose to eat, how you choose to live, where you choose to live, what

type of job you choose to have, etc, etc, etc. Stress is what our

choices boil down to. Every choice you make will either create some form

of stress in our body or not depending on the choices made. It is this

stress that causes so much enervation that leads to the other stages of

disease.

Just noticed I missed a word or two, that should read " The myth and

misconception that we need to eat two or more meals per day arose only

because the majority of society then, as now, eats dead food. "

I disagree with the Bat. When one truly learns to listen to ones body

one will only drink when thirsty. When one is truly hungry one will only

eat then and at no other time. Dr. Bat bases all of his research and

ideas on SAD people, which comprises the majority of the planet. Why

overwork ones kidneys needlessly? A person who eats all raw will drink

very little water or even have need to drink very little water. Someone

who is eating nothing but cooked food, junk food, processed foods will

have a great need for drinking lots of water.

Now for myself, I am not about to drink plenty of water when my body

does not need it. I get all the pure water I need just from eating raw

fruits and it is summer time and hot. I may drink one glass of water a

day and I am nowhere near dehydrated. We must consider the source and we

must consider who the research is based on.

I see this in my dog...she's been raw fed since I brought her home at 7wo

(she's 5.5yo+ now), and drinks much less water than my first dog did, who

pretty much ate what I ate. Not dog food, but now a species appropriate raw

diet either. She drinks when she's thirsty, especially in this heat, but

still doesn't drink nearly as much as my old dog did.

PERHAPS A 'Total Nutrition " cooler with a TBS of OVFP Olive oil might do the

trick and if not my gggrand mother swore by molasses. maybe a TBS or more. . It

can't hurt to try it. and let me know if it does any thing. at least it will not

hurt your throat much to swallow it. ..be careful with prunes as they can give

the gripes. but you might add some pureed sweet taters to the smoothie.

good luck, granny lee

P.S. if it were me and this didn't work, I'D TAKE A BIT MORE MOLASSES.

Suzi,

Since I have chronic diarrhea, I cannot readily identify with

constipation. But I will keep you in our prayers and positive energy.

If you do make the dandelion tea, make it good and strong. It will

probably taste pretty yucky (I used it for my liver problems a few

years back), so if you have some stevia or agave nectar, that would

help.

Sorry I am not of more help. :-(

Hang in there, girl!

Peace, love, laughter

I love a dandelion decoction bowel assist. It's smooth and

fulfilling " aahh " rather than a harsher coffee whoosher. Currently

I've taken to grinding flax seeds in the coffee grinder and putting it

on the morning breakfast cereal or oatmeal. That provides nice booster.
