Guest guest
Hi Kathy, Sounds like you are in a some discomfort. I hope you are feeling better soon. Surely your swelling will go down soon and you'll see that scale drop down to 135. Let me know if I can do anything for you. Hoping we can have another support meeting in the Atlanta area soon now that the Holidays are behind us. ~a in Georgia 678-363-6766 (home) -------------- Original message -------------- I had a lower body lift on Monday, stayed in the hospital until Thursday. I also had a bladder lift during the surgery by a urologist. The total surgery took 6 hours. They removed 9 lbs. of skin just from the abdomen and back. I look like an octopus, I have 7 tubes coming out of me. I'm glad to finally have it done. I will be happier in a few more weeks. It makes the MGB seem like piece of cake. I'm still pretty swollen. I actually weigh more than when I went into the hospital, even after removing the 9 lbs. of skin. I'm sure I'm retaining a lot of fluid. I was on clear fluids for most of the hospital stay. After removing all of that skin I wanted to see a huge drop on the scale....I'll just have to be patient. Kathy G./Atlanta 6-26-03 230/145/ after the swelling goes down hopefully
Guest guest
I used Dr. Marisa Lawrence in Atlanta. She is the former chief of Plastic Surgery of Northside Hospital. She has a lot of experience with weight loss patients. from GA that writes on this board also had hers done by Dr. Lawrence. So far the results look good. Dr. Lawrence was very pleased with the outcome. I think I have gone from a size 10 to a size 6. Unfortunately, I had a rough recovery. I had to be readmitted to the hospital Sunday and got home this afternoon. I had a reaction to the scopalamine patch and was dehydrated. I couldn't keep my eyes open or hold my head up. I blacked out twice on Saturday. I feel much better today. Yes it was a 360 cut. The doctor cost $10,000 the hospital and anesthesia $2,000. I am 18 months post op. I haven't lost more than a few pounds in the last 8 months. I'm 5'3 " tall and weighed 145 lbs. going into the surgery. Looking at me, I didn't need to loss any more weight except where the skin was hanging. I consulted several doctors and they all told me their was nothing I could do on my own to improve it, It was mostly skin. I have been working out 5-6 days per week, so I decided to have it done. She removed 9 lbs. of skin from (mostly) the abdomen and back and lipo-ed my my back and thighs (and I thought they were pretty small to begin with) 5 liters. It can take several months for the swelling to go down. It's a tough recovery. Kathy G./ Atlanta 6-26-03 230/145/hopefully 135 when the swelling goes down
Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I am scheduled to have a lower body lift tomorrow in Houston. I am so happy to start on the final chapters of my battle over obesity. This is a book I look forward to closing. It was 2 years ago when I met my knight in shining armor. Dr. Peraglie was the sweetest and most sincere doctor I had ever come across. He made everyone at the information seminar feel comfortable. I started my journey on July 14, 2005. Dr. Peraglie saved my life and gave me a joyous future. Since then I have lost 175 pounds and enjoying my life as I never thought I could. I am so thankful to the whole CLOS team. I was referred to Dr. LoMonaco by my PCP. I was told that he specialize in patients that have had the gastric bypass. After meeting with him and several other plastic surgeons I knew he was the one I wanted to do my surgery. I have since met with him several times and have corresponded with him by e-mail quite a few times. He was quick to respond and answered all my questions. He said that I probably had at least 12 to 15 pounds of skin that he will be removing. Never in my life did I ever think that I would be under 250 let alone 135 lbs and now after surgery I will be under 125 lbs. Of course that will come at a price. The recovery will be rough but it will be worth it once the new me is transformed. You can find information about Dr. LoMonaco on the web sites www.obesityhelp.com or www.BodyLiftHouston.com I found out 3 weeks ago that he is being featured on the new show called Big Medicine on The Learning Channel. It's on Monday nights here. The show is about morbid obese patients trying to get accepted in the doctors program and then trying to get approval from their insurance for the gastric bypass. It show the surgery, the recovery and weight loss. It also show the plastic surgery for removal of the excess skin. It is a very interesting show. Of course it isn't the mini-gastric bypass but you get the general idea about what we went though concerning our weight and the process we to do to get approval. I want to thank everyone for all their support and input over the past 2 years. I try to visit the post-op site every day and sometime post and always respond to anyone who want to use me as a contact. Everyone has been great. Wish me luck and remember me in your prayers. Guest guest
Congratulations on your weight loss! That is a lot of weight in a short period of time. Amazing. I had my MBG with Dr. Rutledge on July 15, 2002. I am approaching my 5th anniversary. I began at 259 and have been maintaining at 143 for the past 2 years. I am happy at this weight, although I would like to have a total body lift done. I look pretty good in my clothes, but not too pretty without them. My husband says I should be happy with what I am now. I am, but of course wish I was firmer and had the excess skin removed. I really don't want to go through all the pain as well as spending all the money for the surgeries. Anyway, I wanted to tell you that you have done a remarkable job and I wish you the best on your surgery as well as a quick recovery. Sincerely, H. Guest guest
Hi , I'm now recovering from my lower body lift. It is a rough operation, nothing like the ease of the MGB. I had a very rough first week but I am slowly getting better. I'm lucky to have a good surgeon who stayed on top of everything. He reminded me so much of DrP who did my MGB. I know how you feel about the loose skin. When I dressed up I would wear a pant liner or a full body support garment. I looked wonderful in clothes but you have to take off your clothes eventually. I told my doctor is would feel strange not having to tuck in my skin when I got dressed. I went on Monday and they took out my drains. I was ready for that. They are a pain to deal with. Right now I am fighting acid reflux and gas. I don't know if it was caused by the pain medication or what but I have been miserable. I woke up one night and couldn't sit up fast enough to keep the acid down and I aspirated it in my lungs. It was so painful and I spent the next hour coughing and gagging up the acid. Coughing is very painful. It will be my 2nd anniversary tomorrow and I weight in at 126 this morning. For my height it really makes me look too skinny. I plan on joining a gym to start weighting and to see a nutritionist to help me improve my protein input. I love my new life and wouldn't trade it for the world. Guest guest
Hi , Slowly recovering from my lower body lift. It was a rough surgery but well worth it from what I can see now. I know it will look better as time goes ones. I have a lot of swelling which is expected after this type of surgery. My doctor was awesome and stayed on top of things which I was very thankful far. I made him earn his pay. I tolerate pain very well but this operation almost done me in. It concerned my doctor because he said his patients normally does have as much pain as I had. He even called DrP to talk to him about the connection of the MGB to rule out any blockage or twisted bowel. I hope you find a surgeon that specizalies in gastric bypass patients. It is important to choose a good PS if you want to get the best care and results. I have family and friends in the FW area and go up that way a few times a year. I'll let you know next time I come that way, maybe we can get a few MGB'ers together and have lunch.
