Hi ,

My implant center asked that you bring someone along with you who

could listen to what everyone said and talk to you about it later. That

applied to people who had hearing, hearing loss, or were going for an

implant. Everyone was told to bring someone along for the first visit.

Because a lot of times you get so much information, you forget it, and

it's better to have someone with you who can take notes or whatever and

clear things up later.

If you are used to using an interpreter, it would probably be best to

bring your own. Most centers have audiologists who know some signing,

but certainly not at interpreter level. Perhaps your family or friend

who goes with you could interpret? You can always ask the center if they

have an interpreter though.

Good luck with your evaluation. WRITE down the questions you have so

you don't forget any of them.

Subject: Communication with CI Team

Would members of a CI team (or at least the audi) know how to sign? When

I

go for my evaluation, I'd prefer to have the audi use total communication

with me during testing. Is this reasonable to expect or should I make my

own

arrangements for a sign language interpreter?
