Guest guest Posted April 30, 2004 Report Posted April 30, 2004 Hi , I had 2 hospital stays to give me Dilation and Inhalation therapy treatments in an attempt to restore hearing after a sudden hearing loss. Although I made the appointments as soon as it happened, it was a week or so one time and at least 2 weeks the other time before I got to the Dr. Once he saw me, I was sent right to the hospital. The therapy treatment consisted of a drug that dilates all your blood vessels (so you have to stay in bed and rest the entire 3 days) and breathing in carbon monoxide to also dilate the small blood vessels specifically in the ear area. This was followed by a course of steroids. Both times the hearing was restored. Not to the level where it was prior to the problem, but at least enough to allow me to continue using hearing aids for several years. I also had several sessions of steroid useage. The problem with steroids is it can lead to arthritis of the hips. And it sure did in my case. I'm noticing it now, several years later. But hey, now I have a CI, so don't need the steroids. Ask the Ear Dr. Because this kind of treatment often works as soon as it's tried, and I don't think there is a time frame for it. I recall reading somewhere that to have any chance of hearing recovery, injection need to be done within 48 hours. Could anyone in the know comment please. ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand!
