I'll be sending as many reports as possible to the list.. Are you in contact

with an Audiologist at the two places? Is it your experience that Virginia

Mason only works with the one brand of CI's or do they offer a choice of all

three brands?

Thanks Lee.. no problem butting in.. :-) So my understanding is that Alaska

patients just get the one brand.. because we are so far away and there are

not many audiologists up here.. just one in Anchorage who works with cochlear

implants at all. Best to be thoroughly trained to work with one brand than a

superficial training in all three (my opinion).

so true,,, if only if you live here,,, easier to work to your " want " ,,, i

would LOVE to go to Alaska some day,,, but never got around to it,,, summer time

i heard is best to see the breaking glaciers in the fjord. Maybe someday

soon,, as soon I get my degrees and make REAL money to afford trips.

BTW,, I noticed in other email,, did you refer Robbie as " her " ... well,, you

thought as I did,,, but,, it's a him!

in fact the whole office is female.

(4 audiologists). It was the young audi up here that told me I would be

using

an earmold to hold the CI on my ear--not Robbi..

ah,, ok, got it.,, i did ask him about the earmold and he told me

otherwise,, turned out, he was right,, my CI stay put.

From what I know of.... all brands at the University of Washington and Im not

sure about Virginia Mason... Ive been trying to get appt with Virginia Mason and

getting frustrated so Im trying for both places and see which one gives me the

appt and the green light for CI surgery. My goal is to get the Nucleus 24

Contour, along with the BWP and the 3G.

In case this info could help anyone else I will share what my friend here in

town, said when I asked her the question about how it was to have her surgery

in Seattle and fly home to Anchorage in a couple days:

<<I was out patient when I had the surgery, and was released that night. And

was told I could go home the next day. We didn't go home til 3 days later. My

husband had the plane tickets and hotel til that day and decided to stay and

let me rest and he went exploring. I was still very dizzy but I followed my

husband and was fine. I slept alot and had no problem on the plane. I don't

remember your partner's name, I hope she is coming with you. This is when where

you

need someone with you in case you need help with vertigo like I did. Others I

have talked to did not have any problems and went out to eat for dinner that

night after surgery. >>
