Guest guest
I've brought her to the doctor several times and he says it is not constipation because her stool is soft and not hard at all. Her problem is when it is time to have a bowel movement, she strains and strains and cry's a lot and it still doesn't move until going through this many times through the day and sometimes she doesn't poo until the next day. I give her 2-4 oz of water dilluted with apple juice each day (sometimes less if she refuses to drink it) The doctor has me giving Caro syrup in her formula and that is suppose to her but it does not. Guest guest
Tenesmus is generally associated with inflammatory diseases of the bowel of both infectious and noninfectious - Has your dr run any tests, checked the colon, rectum? Anise Seed Oil and Clove Bud Oil are STRONG Carminatives and Antipasmodics and therefore are used to relieve Gas, Cramps, Colic, Indigestion, Nausea and Stomach Aches. Guest guest
Well if I could have breast feed my baby I surly would be doing it now but I can not. I do agree it would solve the problem, if not some of them. The only reason I've given her the apple juice/water mixer and the Caro it is what the doctor said would help her but it has not So I stopped the Caro but have been giving her the juice/water mixer. Guest guest
No the doctor didn't do any test at all.. He said that because she is a D.S. baby that this is what can happen and has seen many D.S. baby go through this.. something to do with how the rectum is made.. But No, there was no confirmation on any condition. No I can not breast feed.. Thanks for the website and the information about the I.F. #3, my baby weigh's 7 lbs. 11 oz so I need to figure out how much is a good dose for her. Guest guest
Yes her formula was changed already and it didn't help so the doc put her back on the Enfamile Lipil. I know the research doesn't fit a Infant but that is what the doc wrote on the paper as her dx. I am going to try the I.F. #3 but will give her very little dose to start and see what happens. Guest guest
I agree totally about the formula not being good for her.. I have searched for the raw goat or cow's milk in my area and can not find anyone who sells it, I will continue to look. I use store bought Organic Cow's milk for my family and I'm wondering since that is all I can get right now if I should start her on the store bought Organic Cow's milk now until I can find the raw milk?? To me it seems like that would be better than the Enfamile. I've read alot on others making Homemade formula using Cow's or Goat's milk, they add alot of other ingredients to the Cow's milk. Do you think I need to add anything to the Cow's milk before giving it to her now?? or will it be ok to give her just the Organic Cow's milk alone? I would like to give her the raw coconut milk but don't know where to even look for that, Where would on buy this? I stopped giving her the Caro Syrup a day or so ago and will not give her anymore apple juice that is store bought. I will invest in a good juicer and start getting the Organic apples at the store. Guest guest
Hello, I'm new to this group and have been enjoying the information. I'm joining the conversation on the tenesmus issue because a friend of mine had a child with this condition. She found it was not the result of constipation, but of the body's confusion about how to use the sphincter muscles around the anus. The straining occurs because the urge is there, but the baby has not been able to relax the sphincter. My friend was told to very gently stimulate the anus with a small blunt object like the eraser end of a pencil - obviously it must be soft enough it does no harm to the child. She tried this just a few times before her son learned to evacuate his bowels on his own. It's worth a try. Tomato flower essence might also be helpful for inner cleansing, Dandelion to help relax the body, or Trauma Soulution or Bach's Rescue Remedy to help the baby release any feelings of trauma connected with all the crying and straining. Guest guest
Nanci, Thank you for joining in on this, from things that the doctor said to me about her little rectum it sounds like this is exactly what the problem is.. She does not have hard stool at all but has the urge to go.. He said that her little anus is smaller than normal, and she didn't know how to use her muscle there yet.. But he told me she would suffer this way until she figured out how to use it. He did tell me to lightly rub a Q-tip on the anus and that might help, but it didn't.. I don't want to sit around and let her suffer, I'd like to do whatever it takes to get her through this as soon as possible. where do I find the Trauma Soulution or Bach's Rescue? Guest guest
Eibhlin, I'm sorry to hear the q-tip didn't work. You might try visualizing light moving through her intestinal tract, and see her anal sphincter opening and closing perfectly. You might also talk to your angels about the problem and ask them to talk to her angels to see what they can do. I've had success using this technique in many different situations, so it might help. And, as silly as this might sound, you might just talk to her body and explain to it how it is supposed to work. To answer your question about the essences - the Bach Flower Essences are available in most healthfood stores and can be found online if you search on " Bach Flower Essences " or simply " Rescue Remedy. " Full disclosure: I have a small company myself and I produce featherhawk essences. Trauma Soulution is a featherhawk formula for relieving stress and trauma. If you have not used essences before, a search on " flower essences " or " nature essences " will bring you lots of information about these gentle healers from companies around the world. be well, nanci -- Nanci Wesling featherhawk essences Restoring Sanity in a Crazy World... Guest guest
Sorry I haven’t gotten back to you sooner, but I was looking for my video tape with that information in. It was a Down's Syndrome segment from a TV show (48 Hours, on NBC, quite a while ago) and I couldn't find it. I must have loaned it to someone and they never gave it back to me. They interviewed a woman who used nutritional supplements to reverse her child's Down's Syndrome within a few months. Her doctor was interviewed on this television program to document that her daughter's facial features did normalize following this supplement program. DS is one extra chromosome, so you need to add the “short” ingredients to balance out the “extra” ingredient. In other words, use nutrition to compensate for the genetic overdose. I would put the plant-based enzymes and probiotics in her milk, or have her suck them off your finger until she starts on food, when you can mix them into whatever she is eating. Non-sweetened applesauce makes a great “mixer”. Make sure the supplements you are using are actually working – open up a capsule of your enzymes and stir it into pudding. If the pudding doesn’t turn liquid in a minute or two, then the enzymes are not active and won’t work inside the body either. Then stir in a capsule of your probiotics into some milk, and if the milk doesn’t curdle, then they’re not working. I would start very slow – maybe even ¼ capsule or less at first for several days or weeks, then maybe up to ½ capsule, until she gets a little bigger. If I were you I would also get a full-spectrum whole food nutritional supplement for her that would supply the “extra” ingredients that she is missing. One of my all time favorite whole food supplements is blue green algae, which has every single nutrient known to man (except D which comes from the sun). After much research, this is the one I’ve found that has the best overall nutrition, highest in chlorophyll, active B vitamins, highest in EFA’s, etc. - http://tinyurl.com/g1iz Carol =========== Posted by: " Eibhlin " eibhlinyah@... eibhlinyah Where did you find this info about the nutritional deficiencies and that it can be reversed through nutritioal supplements.. Guest guest
You may never be able to find out what she is missing, so if it were me, I would go with a full-spectrum nutrient-dense whole food supplement that has all the naturally occurring nutrients – that way you’ll have all the nutrients covered. Carol Posted by: " Eibhlin " eibhlinyah@... eibhlinyah Thanks Carol for the info.. I went to the the website for 48 hours but could not find any info on the Down Syndrome that was helpful.. I will continue to search this out. I want to find out all I can to help My Precious little girl to have the best possible life as she can without any problems.. If I can find out what it is she is missing I will give her what she needs. It would be wonderful if the D.S. could be reversed..
Guest guest
I'm awfully late with my response, sorry. I am interested in reading what others have to say about this. Kaelin, my granddaughter, is going through the same thing. She goes about once every three days, but when she does, it is a major production! I've heard that glycerin is helpful, but her doctor told me that once babies start on it, they have a hard time going without it. So we are cautious about it. The Dr. also said that we shouldn't be concerned when she is only going every few days. If it is more than a week, or hard little marbles (it is like butterscotch pudding these days) we should be concerned. I've suggested to my daughter that just mother's milk would be best. The baby is on mostly milk, and some formula when mommy cannot produce enough or is just plain too tired. I personally don't like using the formula. The baby reacts badly to it, gets a rash on her face, the whole bit. Never heard of giving a baby Karo syrup or apple juice. What is the reasoning behind this? Anyway, I'll try to catch up on my email today, and see what others have to say on the subject. I will keep you and your baby in our prayers!!! Guest guest
Don, Some great info, as usual. I will pass it on to my daughter, as her baby is going through a lot of the same thing. Something in me perked up at the mention of coconut milk. I'll suggest we try it. I agree in avoiding processed anything, especially for the babies. When Kaelin is old enough to eat baby food, I've already made it clear that I will either make myself or help them make natural, organic, raw baby food. I will definitely put my foot down on that crap they sell over the counter!!! > Just curious Eibhlin, but why are you not breast feeding your daughter? > You don't have to answer if you don't wish to. Guest guest
- Are you using a formula with iron, by any chance? If so, that might be the cause of the rash/breakout. Have the parents thought about changing formula because of the reaction the baby is having? When I had my second, due to major complications, the length of time I was in the hospital and the amount of medication the doctor had me on, there was no way to breast feed. The hospital OB ward had to go through half a dozen formulas before they found one my daughter could tolerate. She was on a soy formula that had I known then what I know now, the child would have never drank. I would certainly try to find something that doesn't break your grandangel baby out. Apple juice and Karo syrup. Apple juice or Karo syrup (mixed with water) is supposed to help move the bowels. The habit of using both of these on babies has been around for decades, from my knowledge and experience. How do you like Colorado? I have a BIL & SIL that live in Aurora, too. Guest guest
Hi , Yup, it's the stuff with iron. But we are down to less than on bottle of it a day now, leaning more and more on mothers milk, and it seems to be clearing up. Colorado is great, but very hot!! Still getting used to it. Haven't found a job yet, or a place of our own. We have till the end of the month, so don't feel to much pressure there. Aurora is just a hop away from where we are now. I'm looking at some apartments there tomorrow. Have a good one!! Landes <L@...> wrote: -Are you using a formula with iron, by any chance? . How low will we go? Guest guest
I started using the I.f.#3 on My little girl who is 7 weeks old tomorrow.. she has been taking it for almost 2 weeks.. she is up to 21 drops that I give her with her evening feeding. She's now pooping 1-2 times a day, my goal is to get her to 3-4 times a day.. She is feeling so much better now that the I.f. is working on her little bowel's.. Before she would cry in pain with lot's of straining and no poop.. but now when she starts grunting she has no pain or crying, just a red face and a full diaper. :-) I started her off with 5 drops and worked up to 21 to get her to this point. I tried the glycerin too but it wasn't working on the real problem, that is why I started the I.f.#3.. As for the Karo syrup and the apple juice, the doc told me it was to loosen her stool, but that really wasn't my babies problem so it didn't help her, her problem was pain when trying to poop.. As for formula, I make the NT formula from the Weston A. Price foundation at http://www.westonaprice.org/children/recipes.html using the goat's milk.. My baby is doing so much better on this formula. As for the powder formula Enfamile and such like are not good for your baby at all.. I hope this answers some of your question and your baby will get the helps she needs..
