Yep, me too.

Mumps is typically not a problem unless contracted by a male past

puberty. Then it can be nasty. Much better to get it while younger.

I have info on how to get single M, M, R on this page

If you want to officially waive vax, find your state here

I would not risk it with his sibling either.

In some areas they are having outbreaks. Things to remember about mumps

though...

Just because people are vaccinated, doesn't mean they are immune. I think it

was a mumps outbreak...will look for that post. Of those polled most had been

vaccinated. It was like 80% with the greatest number having had two shots.

Vaccination doesn't mean immunity.

It is a virus. Giving antivirals if you suspect they were exposed is a great

idea. Many people who give lots of antivirals/vitamins have a much easier time

with viruses.

Find out if the outbreaks are in your actual area. No need to worry if you

are not in an area that is having this now.

Homeopathy also has an excellent track record in treating mumps.

You are 44 times more likely to die from the mumps vaccine than you are the

mumps.

Not a wonderful thing to get but in healthy kids not lifethreatening either.

Familarize yourself if you do live in an area near an outbreak so you can

treat at the first signs.

The best defense is a healthy body. Make sure your kids are eating a good

diet with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Avoiding food preservatives and

food colorings plus giving good vitamins so they are at their healthiest. These

are the kids who are able to fight things off and recover faster from what they

do catch. I notice my kids getting runny noses and colds when I let their diets

slip and let them eat foods they shouldn't.

I have two that aren't vaccinated for this at all and one son who didn't get

his 5 year boosters for it. It is something to pay attention to but I have

absolutely no plans on vaccinating my kids. Hasn't even crossed my mind as a

possibility.

I agree as well. This at first glance definately shows that the less

a person is vaccinated against the mumps, the less likely they are to

get the mumps.

But.. the sad thing is that this will be spun into a " Now we can all

see how very improtant it is to receive these vaccinations.. "

I live in an area where the outbreaks are occurring. My daughter

has not been vaccinated for it. They recently ran an article in the

paper about mumps and the symptoms. The illiness seemd pretty

mild. It said the symptoms were mild-moderate fever, sore

throat, swollen glands. Highly contageious. Can last 7-10 days. Am

I missing something???? Why do I need to vaccinate against that.

What is the big risk that I am missing???

THANKS!

Girls are vaccinated to protect male sterility, like boys are vaccinated against

german measles to protect fetuses. Not saying I agree with this, just giving the

rationale, such as it is.

The only issue that comes up with boys, from what I read in Dr. Amy's

book, is that if they are going through puberty, it can cause

sterilization. If they get it young, it can improve their immune

system. If you looked at the article, it was something like 80-85% of

the kids who have gotten it have had immunizations. If the vaccinations

worked, they wouldn't have gotten it now, would they? I'm sure someone

else can explain it or has already done a better job than me.

missing anything. we can't keep our kids from ever getting sick!

it's ridiculous. they are even giving a vaccination to keep kids

My brother had mumps as a baby. At age 20 he developed testicular

cancer and died within 6 months. There was supposed to have been a

higher incidence of this type of cancer with boys who had had mumps. The

good news is that they now have a high cure rate for it.

My understanding is that a lot of the people getting mumps are people

that have already been vaccinated. Doesn't give me peace of mind that

the vaccination would help in that regard.

It's not just mumps. Judging from the poker-faced vaccinators they've got lots

of problems. You don't ask Congress to forgive vaccine injury before the vaccine

is ever produced and injected unless you already know you've got a stinker and

it's about to be used. The criteria for judging vaccine safety is based on the

personal insanity of the pusher and not what the jab actually does.

This risk is more for boys. Mumps can cause sterility or testicular

cancer in the late teens/early 20's.

From what I remember reading...you are 44 times more likely to die from the

mumps vaccine than you are to die from mumps. I would take my chances with the

disease. It is viral so giving antivirals would likely lessen

symptoms/duration. Our bodies are so much better equipt to handle viruses like

this now. I don't care if my next door neighbor gets it, my kids are not going

to be vaccinated.

A few ideas if you get the mumps...... Nutrition Avoid acidic foods, as they can increase the release of enzymes from your parotid glands. Drink lots of fluids in frequent small sips. Vitamin A, vitamin C, and zinc may help support your immune system. Herbs To treat viruses in general, herbalists may recommend herbs that stimulate the immune system, reduce fever, and fight microbes. These include echinacea (Echinacea spp.), peppermint (Mentha piperita), onion (Allium cepa), yarrow (Achillea millefolium), elder (Sambucus nigra), and mullein (Verbascum thapsus). So far studies have not been done to determine whether these herbs can treat mumps specifically. To use any herbs safely and effectively, it is best to see a specialist trained in herbal medicine. Homeopathy There have been few studies examining the effectiveness of specific homeopathic remedies. A professional homeopath, however, may recommend one or more of the following treatments for mumps based on his or her knowledge and clinical experience. Before prescribing a remedy, homeopaths take into account a person's constitutional type. In homeopathic terms, a person's constitution is his or her physical, emotional, and intellectual makeup. An experienced homeopath assesses all of these factors when determining the most appropriate remedy for a particular individual. Aconitum โ€” useful for childhood illnesses including the mumps, particularly when onset is sudden and the individual has a fever Belladonna โ€” most common treatment for mumps, particularly if it comes on

rapidly; this remedy is most appropriate for individuals who have a throbbing headache, flushed face, and burning sensations in the throat Mercurius โ€” for mumps with swelling that is worse on the right side, excessive foul-smelling perspiration and salivation Phytolacca โ€” for mumps in which glands feel swollen and hard; symptoms also include pale skin, a sore throat that radiates to the ear, pain when the tongue is extended, and difficulty swallowing (particularly hot foods) Pilocarpinum โ€” for mumps with excessive perspiration and salivation, as well as considerable thirst; considered by some homeopaths to be the best remedy for this purpose Pulsatilla โ€” for the later stages of mumps, especially in adults or children approaching puberty; this remedy is most appropriate for individuals who

have a dry mouth and fever (but are not thirsty) and have mumps that involve the breasts, ovaries, or testicles; symptoms tend to worsen at night and in warm rooms; open air brings some relief Rhus toxicodendron โ€” for mumps with swelling that is worse on the left side; this remedy is most appropriate for individuals who have cold sores, sensitivity to cold temperature, and aching limbs that are worse at night and when the individual first begins moving from a rested position; aching limbs tend to improve with continuous movement From Dr. : Mumps are the result of toxic mucus accumulations in the body. Herbal Aids General Instructions:

As quickly as evidences of mumps present themselves, use a fomentation of three parts mullein herb and one part lobelia around the neck and swollen area. Cover this with plastic and a cloth or towel over the plastic to be more comfortable and also to hold in the heat. Replace fomentation each half hour or each hour for the day and leave it on all night. In addition to using the fomentation on the neck area, also have the child drink a half cup (more or less according to age) of the mullein and lobelia [Mullein & Lobelia] tea, three or more times a day. [ With mumps, as with all fever diseases, use the fever routine as explained [Fever]. See formula using raspberry leaves, bayberry bark and ginger. [sNH p.147] Mullein: Apply a fomentation as hot as possible on the swollen glands, wrung out of a tea made from mullein leaves; also the fresh leaves soaked in apple cider vinegar may be applied. [ See formula using mullein, lobelia and cayenne. [ Mumps (poultice): See formula using mullein and camomile flowers. Apply as warm as possible without inconvenience, cover well and change the application when cool. Repeat until the swelling is relieved. Give the patient stomach bitters of raspberry leaves (Rubus idaeus) or bayberry bark (Myrica cerifera) which are excellent for cleansing the stomach and removing canker from the digestive tract. [ Lobelia: Lobelia is said to be an excellent herbal aid (and preventative) for infectious diseases. Since most fevers result from obstruction in some part of the system--usually the digestive tract, we have found--Lobelia "locates" and removes the obstruction. We have seen this happen many times with children; they begin to sicken, and you can tell there is something congesting their system. By removing that congestion, you remove the cause of the illness. Lobelia can be used as an enema to remove congestion from the body via the colon. When Lobelia causes vomiting, Malstrom claims, it usually signals a cleansing process in the body expelling debris that cannot be expelled in any other way (Mal:94). He considers it an effective remedy in scarlet fever, measles, whooping cough, mumps, and other contagious diseases. It gives almost immediate relief from suffocating mucus and phlegm that has accumulated in the respiratory tract

and which is often associated with these diseases (Rose:Herbs:77). [uW-Lobelia] Lobelia is used in the case of mumps; when catnip enemas and Lobelia are given, mumps usually have very little effect on males, although there is usually concern when males contract the disease. The illness will disappear, after mild symptoms, within five days (Mal:14). [uW-Mumps] Mullein & Lobelia: Dr. 's Glandular Fromula: Through the accumulation of toxic waste in the body from improper diet, poor blood stream and sluggish circulation of the blood system the glands become congested and infected, and swell up to cause much pain and misery. (There are glands that swell on the neck, breast, groin, under arm pits, etc.)

Make a tea of three parts mullein and one part lobelia herb and use as a fomentation over swollen or malfunctioning glands. Leave on all night (covering fomentation with plastic), six days a week until relief is obtained. Use a fresh fomentation as warm as possible each night. This can be used as an aid to relieve mastitis, thyroid malfunction, etc., etc. In addition to the external fomentation, also drink a cup of this tea two or three times in a day or take two of the capsules or tablets with a cup of steam-distilled water.
