Go to your local theater, ask about what ALD set up they have, and " play " with it. I live near Seattle, and I see those ALD signs alot around here. The best way, would be, check them out,, at your local places, but you have to ask for it. The best time to find out,, when you are not in hurry to see the shows/movies. Guest guest Posted April 28, 2004 Report Share Posted April 28, 2004 Hello All, I am fairly new to this list and have just been reading along for information because I'm a cochlear implant candidate at this stage. Just wanted to make one comment, from my perspective, regarding Europe being more advanced than the US. I am a frequent traveler, within the US, to Europe, South America, and the Mideast, and I have to agree that of the many places I've been to in Europe, they are much more advanced then the US when it comes to assistive devices, especially loop systems. Most of the cabs I rode in Europe had loops, as well as most churches, most public places, museums, etc., even little tiny country churches tucked into the smallest corners of Ireland were looped and it was advertised on the door, which surprised and delighted me to no end. I am not sure how the letter of the ADA law reads when it comes to public places being looped and/or accessible, I do know that having a law and enforcing it are two different things. I have been to theaters here in the US that did have assistive listening devices, but every one was broken and no one in the theater knew how to operate them. Of course, I believe that things are getting better in the US due to much push from powerful groups, and also by individuals who request these things, and I hope they continue to improve.
