I do know that AB is doing bilateral implants. My daughter had bilateral Clarion implants put in on 3/1/04. I know that this is still in the trial stage and I am not sure whether Annika was put into the study or not on this but I would assume that she was. She was actually only the second bilateral implant that was inserted at the same time done by this surgeon at the U of M and the child that received the first one has a Nucleus so I am assuming that he will put Annika in the study too. Also I assume this because at hookup there were two reps from AB to help with her hookup and then to watch. I have heard of others receiving bilateral implants through Clarion too. It just depends on the implant center and whether how up to date they are with the research in this procedure. Guest guest Posted March 30, 2004 Report Share Posted March 30, 2004 HI SEA ANGEL Advanced Bionics has not done a clinical research study on bilaterals but there are quite a few Clarion recipients around with bilateral implants.both sequential and those who were implanted with two at the same time.It is up to the CI team whether to do this or not.Same with the Nucleus.The studies are now closed to new patients but research into how well recipients are doing with bilaterals is going on at various centers.
