Hey:

Tomorrow is one year anniversary when I was implanted with Nucleus 24

Contour on April 2, 2003 at University of Utah Hospital by Dr. Clough

Shelton. I was hooked up on May 14. I was sitting and thinking about how

much my life have improved over the year! I used to rely on lip-reading

and interpreter to get information. Now, I don't need interpreters in my

classes and it is more liberating for me! I went from 110 dB to 15 dB in

less than year! I can enjoy the music once again also I can sit down and

play piano or violin and not worrying about how they sounds because I can

hear the tunes! I can hear my three years old niece calling me " Jermie "

instead of Jarom. I also can hear my grandma's voice on the other side of

the phone while she is 8,000 miles away from me. I am thankful for every

signals that was or are being emitted by 18 pieces of computer chip at

fast speed. Cochlear implant paved the road for me to explore in the real

world of sounds. It have opened up the world for me and I was able to

leave the world of silence and enter the world of rich and colorful

sounds. I don't want to go back to the silent world which everything are

confusing, frustrating, and very emotional. The point I am trying to make

is that cochlear implant have helped me and 70,000 other deaf people in

the world and give us an opportunities to enjoy the life like billions of

people in the world.

Great post, Jarom. Happy anniversary. It really is like a birthday because

having the implant is a new birth. The birth of sound. You are right about

the wonders of the device.

Hope you are going to celebrate it somehow.
