Guest guest
Good Morning Kat. It's getting close for you so naturally you have lots of questions popping into your head and we are here to answer them the best we can. I'm afraid that we have no way of knowing how many total mappings you will have but for the initial hook up, the norm is to go two days in a row and then one week later. Not all centers do this and I'm sure they take into consideration the distance the patient needs to travel for mapping sessions. I do think your plan will work and sounds like fun. You should probably contact the clinic to get a more accurate answer about their particular method of the initial activation. After a the monthly check, unless you are having problems and want to be tweaked - you probably won't need to go back for at least a month and perhaps more. Some people go back at 3 months and then again 6 and the audiologist will test in the booth to see how well the patient is adjusting to the new implant. After that... the one year point is important and dependant on how you feel about the sound, you might not need to go back for another year, but most people go back every six months until they hit two years. At that point...yearly visits are pretty common. Now..this is not everyone. For my left side, I've had multiple mapping sessions. On the right, I can forsee that I am where I want to be and have only really had the initial mappings. When I go in next week, we are going to map the left (the older implant) again - not the right (newer). All I needed to do with the right was to find which strategy and speed I preferred and then we put that on the 3G. I see no need to make any further changes there. That took three appointments total. The first two were the initial mappings. The third was one month later when we activated the 3G. It's really an individual thing, Kat. Guest guest
Hi Dave, Thanks for clearing that up. I had never thought of it until you said you would be away for three weeks. I wondered if maybe another center would refuse to do anything. Enjoy your trip!
