Hello ,

Off Topic??? NOT! LOL Seriously, this was a very interesting

letter. I'm so curious as to what music will be like once I get my

implant. People say they can't live without music and we CI people

know, that too often it happens that way. Which implant are you

using? I'm guessing it is the Nucleus 24/3G but I'm not sure at

all.

I hope I get a chance to go to a music festival somewhere and hear

all types of music so that I can evaluate which sounds I seem to hear

the best. My favorite music is jazz and the R & B sounds of the

sixties and 70s. Though that is probably because that's the last

time I could hear music clearly enough to make out the words.

Keep on writing to us and let us know everything. I look forward to

hearing from you again.

gayle, i canstill hear music pretty well both with my aids and with out if i

use ear phones especially and i still like looking at the lyrics. people

often aren't very clear in what they sing or haven't been taught how to be

that way. Isn't cochlear america the company specifically trying to develop

musical sound in their cis or is everyone trying to do that? If I ever need

a ci, that will be a major consideration of mine both in performing and just

listening

Hi, I stuck the OT on it because I was also sending to another list that

doesn't have anything to do with CI's (a dog list) but I know a lot of the

people because I have met them. Just gets to be a habit sometimes when I

do one.. do all the same :)

Yes I have the N24c/3g. I just like to keep it off my sig. I am really

thinking of going to a festival next year that is about an hour and half

away. To any that are in Michigan, it is in Evert, just south of

Cadillac. It is a week long festival and I have some friends that go and

stay either the entire week or a long weekend. In the meantime, I continue

to go to the Friday Nite Lives and the Loading Dock.

Tina-- you are right that Cochlear is in the works of a musical software for the

CIers. I dont know what that would be or when that would be out. But it would be

interesting to see and hear what that would be.

Tina.....thank you for your reply. I'm still hopeful that I will be

able to enjoy the overall sound if not the detail of the

instruments. You are so lucky to still be able to listen to music.

I remember downloading some MP3s (when it was still legal)of some old

Brown hits. I was so disappointed to discover my hearing had

deteriorated to where I could no longer recognize the music. After

replaying my CD of " I Feel Good! " about 6 different times, I was able

to decipher some of the main choruses.

As for music research, I think all the cochlear companies are working

on the problem. I attended a retreat for cochlear users and

candidates in Georgia in June, 2004. All the companies represented

mentioned ongoing research efforts to gain music appreciation and to

develop speech sounds that are closer to normal.
