My ite aids have t coils but I often find that the phone is ok if i just adjust the volume and not put it on t. Guest guest
Great solution Wayne! May I have permission to use this as part of a training program I am involved with for the National Center for Hearing Assistive Technology? ____________________________________________ Best Regards, Brad Ingrao, M.S.Ed. Re: Telephone Intercom > Elsa, > > You may also want to look into CapTel if it is available in your area. I have a CapTel phone at work. It is very useful. The phone is, of course, t-coil equipped and well-amplified so you can get the most out of whatever hearing you have. The captions appear on a screen on the phone and can be retained in memory for a limited time so you can review the information after you hang up. CapTel has a couple of limitations. I have not yet figured out a good way to handle incoming calls. The phone rings and the display flashes, but I have no way of knowing if the call is coming directly to my office number (no captions) or if the caller has dialed into CapTel. For now, I've turned off the ringer and let all the calls go to voicemail, which I check constantly. When someone leaves me a message I call them back on the CapTel with captions. My voicemail greeting encourages people to email or send me a fax, if possible, and I have been very pleased that many people do that. I try to respond immediately. The other problem is the captioning itself. I don't know the details of how CapTel does the captioning, but they are not quite as good as the internet relay operators I have used (and I've never used TTY). This can be a problem when retrieving voicemail. If the person's call back number or other identifying information is bobbled, then I can't return the call and risk an angry customer. So I tend to use internet relay to gather my voicemail messages and CapTel to return the calls. This actually works to my advantage as I can return phone calls on the CapTel while the relay operator is still captioning my voicemail messages. Multi-tasking!
