Guest guest
Hi, I am thinking about the lap-band surgery and was given Dr Aceves name from a referral. Naturally, I have concerns going to another country, choosing the appropriate Dr. to perform the procedure, etc. Can anyone give me some feedback if Dr Aceves had performed the surgery on you. Would you recommend him, what are the facilities like, is that part of Mexico safe, etc. I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks
Guest guest
Hello, Just wanted to know that my daughter and I are nurses and Kyla, my daughter went down to have the banding done and we would highly recommend Dr. Aceves and his staff are just wonderful. Dr. Aceves is very experienced in lapbanding, more so than some of the physicians we checked into in the states. You will be in good hands if you choose to go there. Good Luck and I'm sure you will make the right choice for you. Guest guest
Yes, Dr. Aceves, his staff, and the facilities are wonderful. I am a former nurse as well, so I can vouch that the facilities were as good, even better than the hospitals I've worked in the United States. It truly does feel like a resort down there. Mexicali is the Capital of Baja, so the city is very clean and not like what you expect to find in a typical border town. The staff all speak English so you don't have to worry about that either. I live in San Diego, and I drove there twice on my own without any trouble whatsoever. The hospital is right on the same street you enter into as you cross the border. It only takes a few minutes drive to get there. I could have gone to someone in Tijuana, I can see Tijuana from the end of my block in San Diego and it takes me 5 minutes to get across the border. But I did my research, and Dr. Aceves was the best. Lucky for me it is only a 2 - 2 1/2 hour drive. C. I was banded by the wonderful Dr. Aceves on February 23 of this year. I live in Mobile, Alabama. There are several doctors withing driving distance for me to receive my fills (aftercare of the band in case you don't know about that...). I could drive 3 hours to Baton Rouge, LA. I could drive 2 hours to Metarie, LA. I could go to Florida. However, I am paying to fly back to San Diego, paying for hotel rooms, a rental car, and am being picked up by Dr. Aceves' staff JUST SO I CAN GO BACK TO DR. ACEVES for my fill! In fact, I wouldn't even consider going somewhere else...Almater Hospital is incredible and the entire staff with whom you would come in contact with goes over and beyond any hospital I have ever seen in our own country. Safe? You will feel like you are in a resort. Many people even go alone without their spouse...that says something about safety! Dr. Aceves' staff picks you up in San Diego, drives you straight to the hospital, and then they take you back to San Diego! You are never in an unsafe situation. (I'm boarding a flight to San Diego in about 3 hours!)I'm sure you will get PLENTY of responses to your posting! I'm telling you, Dr. Aceves has given life back to so many of us on this board...he has enabled us to increase the quality of our lives and he has a special place in the hearts of each of us. You will never hear anything negative about him, the hospital, or Mexico. Read and learn!Jenni CurrieDOB (Date of Band) 2/23/06231/200/145 (Weight at surgery day/Current weight/Goal weight)
Guest guest
Hello, As I'm sure many others have already told you. Dr. Aceves is the best. The care you receive from the minute you step off of the plane is excellent. A driver will pick you up and take you to the hospital where Yolanda, the patient coordinator will greet you. You will then meet, , Dr. Aceves's nurse. will complete or go with you for each test. If you are staying at the motel, they will take you there and help with the check in. When arrive back at the hospital, you will be greeted by either or Yolanda to get you checked in. Dr. Aceves will come in to explain the procedure and give you an opportunity to ask questions. will be with you through the surgery and then also afterwards when you wake up. You will feel like you are in a spa. I never even had to push the call button as all my needs (and wants) were anticipated. After discharge, you will be taken back to the airport. My family stayed in the motel (arranged by Nina) and they were given transportation to and from the motel as well as transportation to a shopping mall. Everyone was given the " red carpet " treatment. If you have any lingering doubts - they'll be gone within minutes of meeting all the great staff. If you have any other questions, feel free to email me directly as I don't always check the message board due to time. My banding was on 2/17/06 and I've lost 57 pounds and continuing to lose. It is a lot of hard work but worth every second. There is not a lot of pain. You leave the hospital with Tylenol. I was back at work in less than a week. Good luck with your decision and I'll be waiting to hear about your success story.
