Hi Jenni, Hope that flu goes away!! Did you have any vomiting with your symptoms? I'm getting my flu shot on the 20th, and hope like hell I don't get it before then!! My biggest fear is getting the stomach flu or bronchitis and throwing up..yaaa..scary thought for me!! It's amazing how many people want to relate our illnesses big or small, to the band!! Oh, I have seen the Lap-band commercial too, alot in the past few weeks!!! I first saw it one night lying in bed half asleep and thought I was dreaming!LOL...I meant to post on here to see if it was being broadcast every where. It's pretty neat that my friends "now" know what the band is all about after seeing the commercials. I think that the band is going to become VERY popular in the next year or so!!! Maybe more fill doctors too! That would be great! So how has it been without a fill? Do you feel any restriction? (Prior to the flu of course:-) Hope your better soon...Dana

Some people are so ignorant! I have been sick since Wednesday of this week and was diagnosed with the flu and pnumonia. Needless to say, I have felt like road kill that fell victim to a fast moving semi down the interstate. Well, here is my complaint! Everyone that I have talked to and told them what was wrong with me says, "You probably got it because of your lap band and not being able to get the nutrients you need!" At first I would simply say, "No, it has nothing to do with that." Then I moved on to saying, "Actually, do you know how someone catches these air-borne illnesses?" and the last two people who asked, I responded quite rudely, "You know, to be perfectly honest, I would guarantee you that my daily nutritional intake far exceeds yours so if you think that is what causes the flu and/or pnumonia then I would suggest that you go ahead and make an appointment cause your's is coming!" I would sort of laugh when I sai

d it but I think they got my point. One interesting thing to note, while I have been home, I have seen a commercial for the lapband 4 times! It is shown on Lifetime during the day. It's a great commercial! I was surprised to see it.Another good thing, I have lost 4 pounds this week but I don't think it was a very good trade off, personally! If you haven't had a flu shot, I would HIGHLY recommend getting it as soon as possible. This has been a miserable week.Other than 104 fever, chills, headaches, and dealing with other people's stupidity, LIFE IS GOOD!Jenni

>Dear Jenni,

HA...you are so right about everyone thinling that they know

everything about bandsters! You are probably rught about us getting

more nutrients then they do. At my job, I am constantly being told

this isnt healthy for me because I hardly eat large meals there..for

lunch and certainly not breakfast. I am seen mostly drinking my

nutrient ensure drinks. I am at the TIGHT stage of my band and a few

times i tried to puch eating lunch which wasn't so great because it

winded me up in the bathroom for a lil whil(if ya know what i

mean)...but..now a few coworkers ..who don't take the time to

underdstand the process think I am unhealthy and paid to be a balemic

or something...haaa..well...us bandsters know what we gotta do and

how to do it. It is a tough journey though...as Dr. Aceves says to

all, " You must work with your band " ...yea...u got that right

Doc...haaa...I am almost 40 pounds down since surgery July 1,2006..4

months...have 60 more to go, don't quite yet need a fill for a few

months...(i wanna swallow my own saliva...haaaaa)..but the Doc. gave

me a pretty big fill the end of Aug. for my 1st one...it was

1.4..WOW!!! It surely is takin it's course. Well, feel better and

hang in there!

I'm sorry to hear you are so sick. Isn't it amazing what some people will say much less THINK? I loved your last response. :-}

My husband and I got our flu shots yesterday in preparation for our winter trip south. It is cold and rainy up here in the Northwest and we are ready to head towards the sunshine!

Although I got some bad news from the doctor this week I also got some good news. First the bad........my scale was WAY OFF. I thought I had lost 28 pounds but according to the docs. scale I had only lost 21. That was Monday last and as of today it is 24. The good news........all my bloodwork results were NORMAL. My cholesterol and triglycerides and in the middle range and NORMAL for the first time in 15 years! One more NSV........I am wearing my old size 16 jeans!

Hang in there Jenni and do all the right stuff for yourself. We'll be thinking about you.

Dana, I have not had any stomach problems with this bout with the flu. In fact, my appetite has been somewhat normal. Eating has not been a problem except when my fever is on the rise. Everything has been in my lungs and head. I am feeling a great deal better once I got a few doses of antibiotics in my system. My biggest problem now is just being so weak. I go back to the doctor tomorrow. My youngest son had a stomach virus last weekend so I was really afraid I might catch his bug and start the vomiting thing but I didn't. Now, my oldest son seems to be getting either the flu or bronchitis so maybe he can see the doc tomorrow as well. We need to hang a big quarantine sign on our front door! Restriction? What is that? lol Actually, I don't have much restriction at all with amounts of food but I do have restriction

to certain types of foods. Does that make sense? Like bread. I tried to eat a sandwich yesterday for lunch and I couldn't do it. This was the first time I have tried a sandwich since my surgery in February. The bread wouldn't go down. I'm still tighter in the mornings. It seems I can eat more at night as ususal. I am trying to work out a time to go back for another fill as soon as I can. It is going to be hard to be off from work again since I've been off with this bout of flu/pnumonia. I'm hoping I can go on a Saturday and return home on the following day and not have to miss work at all but I don't know if that will work or not. Hey Jenni, sorry to hear your under the weather. I've never had a

flu shot and have been able to avoid it but now that i am working at

a psych facility and with kids (new job starting in a week), I think

this may be my first year getting it. I am sorry that there are so

many ignorant people around, people just dont get it that even with

nutrition you can still be susceptible to AIR borne viruses...what

idiots! Take care of yourself and keep in touch!

Jenni, Glad to hear your feeling better! Hope the rest of your family can get better soon too!

I know what you mean about the "type" of foods. My daughter Jacqui can eat a whole chicken sandwich with no problems, but throws up over !/2 a french fry!!LOL. That's the only thing that let's her know she even got the band!!! Fortunately, she goes for a fill on the 15th..she has NO restriction (except for the fry thing) and has 2cc!! Still amazes me how different everyone responds to the fills. I can eat most breads, rolls ect but "candy" like candybars, tootsie-pops, and chocolate chip cookies kill me!! Which is a good thing! I kinda know what will work and what won't most of the time, but once in a while I'll slime on tea!? or something "easy"even in the evening...go figure! Hope you can get your fill scheduled. Have you reached your goal? You sure look like you have!!! Look'in good girl!! Take care and start some chicken soup for your crew! Dana

HI All, Jenni I am sorry you were sick. :-( and glad you are on the

way to being stronger and feeling better. :-)

Dana, I totally know what you mean about " no restriction " ! I have

been getting so frusturated with my band lately. because I am

loosing slower than what I want for number one. last week I worked

out 5 days and did really good on my eating and didnt loose a pound!

arghhhhh. I was thinking " shoot this doesnt feel much different than

when I didnt have the band, only difference is now I feel like I am

starving myself to death! " so I had a bad band week! and about the

food thing. I Just started soft foods and one morning I tried to eat

eggs and I slimmed and pb'd bad and as a matter of fact for two days

I was having issues feeling tight and pbing over crazy stuff. then

yesterday I was shoping and I was fine and able to eat quite a bit

with no restriction, and last night I had some trail mix and some

popcorn! go figure, I cant eat eggs, but I can eat popcorn! weird

huh. But I am going in for a fill next week, so I will be relieved

to get some restriction. plus I am telling myself this week is going

to be better and I am going to loose! something else I have noticed

is that if I eat slow I can eat things better, but if I eat fast then

it gets stuck in my throat and that is when I think I sime and pb

alot. so I am trying to be really careful about how fast I eat. Oh

and another question for you all. do alot of you pay attention to

cals? and if you do are alot of you staying in the 800 calorie

mark? this is the target cals for our surgery, but I am having a

hard time sticking to that amount. maybe it is because I dont have

the restriction? so maybe once I get that restriction it will be

much easier to stay within the target range?

well I hope you all are having a better weight loss time than me! I

know mine will get better. especially after my fill.

you guys have a great week,

hugs,

Hi , Hey, next week when you get your fill take it reallly slow when you start eating...like have broth first, cream soups to test the "waters". Also, in the morning..sip... to see where your restriction is..nothing worse than PB-ing liquids..yuck!! You know it can take a few days to "kick" sometimes a week or more, so "be ready" just in case! I can eat "over-easy" eggs and hard-boiled SOMETIMES...but have trouble with scrambled!!! Good luck with your fill and hang-in-there with the calorie counting !!(800-1000 I think was the range).

Hi Jenni I hope you are feeling MUCH better by now. As a fellow

teacher, I know about getting the flu--I got it one of the first

years I taught and was always certain to get the shot very early

after that! Until now--I still haven't gotten mine and I NEED to do

it!!!! I have a question for you. What do those blue shirts say

that you all had when you went down for your fill in Mexicali?

Could they be saying " Life is good? " My next question is that I am

wondering if we might be able to get together sometime during the

week of December 10. This is real tentative but I think I have my

husband convinced that we need to drive our new car(which is now

parked at my sisters home in Lake Placid, FL) along the Southern

route(the gulf coast) through Mobile! I will keep you posted as we

finalize our plans. We actually have our plane tickets bought to

Tampa ( is that where you live and are you going to be in

Israel during that time?) but not much else planned yet including

how to get from Tampa to Lake Placid! Anybody else around Lake

Placid/Sebring area that I can see while I'm down there?????

Best wishes to all and I hope we all stay healthy!

Penny, I would LOVE to get together! I am usually in town unless we are at a swim meet somewhere but I don't know of one that weekend but I'm always around during the week. Even if we could just meet for dinner or something that would be wonderful. Unless you would like a day of some exciting history then I could show you some of the history of Mobile??? I find that interesting but I guess I'm kind of strange that way. However, since you are a former teacher, you may find it interesting as well!!! lol Let me know what you and your husband decide. Those t-shirts....I had some made for the staff in Mexicali. The front just has the Hospital Almater logo. The back has a picture/logo of a lapband. Just above it, it has Dr. Alberto Aceves and below the logo it says Touching and Changing Lives Worldwide. I have some extra ones if you

would like to buy one. I sold one to Kelli and I have a few more. In fact, if you want it when you come through, I'll save one for you. It will cost $15.00. Just let me know. Gosh, I'm excited at the prospect of getting to meet you! How fun!!! Oh, I am feeling better. We are out of school today for Veteran's Day but I will go back Monday. I will have to get back in the land of the living this weekend. My son has a rather large piano competition tomorrow that is always nerve-wracking! He has won this particular competition for 3 years in a row so he has his hopes up really high! This is the one competition in which he plays where he actually wins money so he likes to win this one!! lol Anyway, I look forward to hearing from you soon!
