It is true,,, paperwork with insurance takes time,,, give it 6 weeks then worry. I got my caseworker involved because of a " hold status " . Lee Quote

It helps to have caseworker in the " inside " (state office) who can find all the " scoop " that VMMC wouldn't know. Other than that " delay " ,,, I didn't have to do a thing.. just let them do their job and wait. Lee Quote

I forgot to mention that when the State put me on hold,,, i was one of first to be placed on " hold status " as they placed EVERYONE who was getting elective surgery (not just CI) on hold, it wasn't just me. It was at the " budget planning time " as they decide whetever to cover CI or not, as they were cutting services. Lee Quote

I only have Medicare and no Medicaid so they told me early on that most of my implant will be covered and then we have not mentioned it further. I presume they would not have gone ahead to a surgery date and all our appointments planned if there were any question about the coverage. I hate the money angle and just haven't mentioned it again after they said it was a " go " . Pam Quote

Do you know what that was in regards to? Each State has it own rules,,, at the time they had me on hold, they were ordered to cut back on elective surgery,,,, so they " held " all elective surgeries preauthrozation until they decide which services to cut. As for my state, now the look at each electives on " case by case " basic, it used to be they accept all requests it came in from my CI Center... but not anymore. This was why all of us were REALLY SURPRISED that the State aurthorized our request for funding for batteries within 2 weeks, not the usual one month or so. Your state will definally have different rules. Lee Quote

Guest guest Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 Hi Alice, I just got off the phone with my CI center and they haven't heard from my insurance company yet. It has been 2-3 weeks since my paperwork was submitted, but someone in the office is going to follow up to find out if the approval went through. When I asked if I should get a caseworker to speed up the process, I was told that it might be best if I left things alone so as to not complicate or confuse the paperwork. I was told that approval could take up to 6 weeks. 2-3 weeks have already passed, so the latest I can expect to hear back from my insurance company would be early to mid November. Gosh -- I hope it doesn't take *that* long. I'm practically climbing the walls in nervous anticipation. LOL! Quote
Guest guest Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 (Pulls down off the walls and reminds her she is not a cat nor a monkey, so will tie her to a chair until she get the insurance approval. this action is in ehr best interests, cant have her having accidents and busting her braille reading fingers. Jackie, what is that stuff again, Xanax? may need it you think? I worry about her. No no *I* dont need the Xanax!! I just need a shell phone!) *---* *---* *---* *---* *---* Shoot for the moon. Guest guest Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 , I'm sorry that you are dealing with this. I think that I would be a squeaky wheel by now calling CI Center daily. I know that this is wearing on you and wish there were something we could do to help. It would be horrid to have to wait 6 weeks for approval - at least for me. Alice > .. I was told that > approval could take up to 6 weeks. 2-3 weeks have already passed, so the latest I can expect to hear back from my insurance company would be early to mid November. Guest guest Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 and , , thank you for peeling me off the walls. Oops! There I go again like a magnet to steel. ...do you mind? Perhaps you could tie me down to a chair. LOL! I *could* use some Xanax right now. , do you have any you can send me? Hehehehe. (Otherwise I'll settle for a box of chocolate -- or better yet -- a magic wand that will instantly speed up time. LOL!) Quote
Guest guest Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 Lee, Sometimes I wish that I had been told to expect a 6 week wait. That way, if approval came sooner, I'd be pleasantly surprised and wouldn't be a bundle of nerves right now. LOL! Out of all the waiting I've done throughout the past 6 months (delays, cancelled appointments, etc.) this is certainly the most difficult. Quote
Guest guest Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 Lee and list, You mentioned a rule change with Medicaid. Do you know what that was in regards to? I have both Medicare (primary) and Medicaid (secondary). Too bad we can't perform a little magic. <smile> I keep telling myself that my time will come. If I've waited this long to get a CI, I can wait a little longer! Quote
Guest guest Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 Lee, Thanks for the explanation. I'll check my state (Wisconsin) Medicare and Medicaid guidelines in regards to that. My surgeon and audi don't anticipate any problems with approval but we *are* dealing with an insurance company. We'll see what happens in my case! Quote
Guest guest Posted October 15, 2004 Report Posted October 15, 2004 Lee, My surgeon and audi said the same thing. They don't anticipate any problems, so I'm very happy about that. Quote
