Guest guest
I am both lactose and soy intolerant and have been since surgery on October 15, 2002. I, too, will only indulge in ice cream in the evenings or on a weekend when I don't have to go anywhere or be near anyone. I have given up milk almost entirely, except to use it -- whoops, I was going to admit to using it in the occasional cup of decaf coffee that I allow myself (only once a month or so when in a restaurant will I do it). The soy intolerance was the worst however and it took me a long time to figure out what the problem was. I was having protein drinks and thinking I was doing all this good stuff and had massive gas problems. I am telling you it was the worst. I finally figured out it was soy products that made it so bad and after eliminating them the problem is reduced. I am extremely intolerant of cheese also, which I love. That gives me instant gas. I used to be quite a milk lover but I love my new self even more so I don't mind not having milk anymore. The ice cream, well, I do have that occasionally. Guest guest
, I have found that I am lactose intolerant too- sometimes to a greater degree than others- my Doc told me that sometimes lactose intolerance can mean that you can have one glass of milk- but- 2 will do you in- that sometimes it is the actual quantity of lactose you can tolerate- I have found that by taking lactaid- available over the counter-- it does stop the gassiness and bloating and all of the other side effects too.- Try it and you won't have to suffer anymore. As far as a tolerance for soy- I eat a lot of Japanese food- and they use a lot of soy and I don't have a single problem- some dairy products yes- soy no. Hope that helps. I had my surgery 7/1/03- and I find that the lactose intolerance is improving a little- only in the sense that I can have extremely small quantites of ice cream with out extreme nausea. Yogurt and cottage cheese also make me nauseus- but I can eat cheese and whipped cream. I am afraid to eat yogurt- due to the lactose intolerance but I may try it again not that I have discovered lactaid. Good luck! >From: " " <cwebb01@...> >Reply- > >Subject: Lactose Intolerance & Soy Intolerance >Date: Tue, 17 Aug 2004 02:28:52 -0000 > >Is it unusual to be intolerent of both lactose & soy? Guest guest
I have found that I'm not really lactose intolerant - it's more of the only thing I like any more is cheese (dairy-wise anyway). Don't really care for milk or ice cream - it's like the consistency of it is gross in my mind - wierd. Also, I will go for a while, then boom - i'll have intense cravings for things like (right now) egg rolls - go figure! Sometimes its pretzels, and usually I find I crave salty things - again wierd! Guest guest
Have you tried the Lactaid products?. Walmart makes a generic version. You take it with the first bite/drink of dairy. Guest guest
Yes, but maybe I should give it another try. > > Is it unusual to be intolerent of both lactose & soy?
