Congratulations on all your weight loss. I miss the old group also.

My five years will be Nov. 9, 04. I am doing great. I lost 102 pounds and

staying about the same. I never set any goals. I just wanted to be healthy

and happy. Please keep in touch, You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I read your letter about your anniversary. Congratulations. What was it

that made you decide on the revision? I had my surgery in May 2003 and I've

lost 117 pounds. I'd like to lose another 100 and I'm afraid that I have

stopped losing and that I may want a revision. What were some of the factors

that you considered? What was your starting weight? Are you glad you had the

revision? I started at 381 and I'm now at 264. Thanks for your thoughts on

this. in DC

Thanks Doris, I am glad you are doing so well. I think of you often and

wonder how you are. Maybe we will all catch up at the picnic this year. I

wish they would move it back to Raleigh...hint, hint...I think more people

came when it was here, even if it weren't so centrally located.

, first let me congratulate you on your weight loss and on your

new life. What an amazing journey you have had. I was wondering if

you were one of the original ones with a 5 ft bypass? Is that why

you had the revision? How much do you have bypassed all together

now? I had a two ft bypass because of severe liver disease that was

found when doing my surgery. Dr. R told me I could have a revision

in a year or so when my liver heals. Tell me about your recovery

from the revision, was it just like the original surgery? Thanks

Thanks so much Phyllis. Genz and I did a QUICK, and I mean QUICK trip to

Florida to see Flo in Florida two weeks ago. We wanted to try and meet you

for lunch on our way back but we just couldn't get the time...it is a LONG

drive...Next time we will meet up with you and Kim and Shae and Amy

Poe. We definitely want to go again...it was a blast!!! Thanks for the

note.

IThanks Anne. had a 6 foot bypass with each surgery giving me a total of 12

feet bypassed. Dr. R recounted the first bypass when he did the revision and

it measured out 6 ft...I was just stubborn...He also reduced my stomach size

by 50% although I could only tell a minimal amount of difference after the

revision. The revision is much easier to recover from than the first MGB. I

can't exactly explain it but others have said the same thing. It is easier

to swallow, things don't get stuck as easily as they did the first time. I

am not sure if you have just already made so many of the adjustments that it

is easier or what, but I found it easier.

I felt like the DECISION to have the revision was much more difficult. When

you are 200 pounds overweight and have a husband and 3 boys you love, the

decision to take a CHANCE to save your life isn't all that tough....I felt

differently about it when I had the revision. I was still very overweight,

but I was SO much healthier than before so I was terrified that I was being

vain or that I would have a leak this time, or God knows what...that I

didn't really deserve to be thin. I knew as soon as I lost 40 pounds that

it was SO worth it. I felt so much better, and even more mobile. Now, I feel

like my old self. I haven't weighed what I weigh now in 21 YEARS....So it

was very worth it to me. I just look forward to losing the next 25 and then

plastic surgery...I won't stop until I am FINISHED...LOL

thanks for the information. I can understand where if you are

much more healthy and doing what you want with your life, that the

decision to have a revision is difficult. But congrats on making a

tough decision and going for it. I am probably looking at a revision

also. So thanks for answering my questions. Glad it is easier the

second time around. And he made you stomach even smaller huh? So it

holds somewhere between 2-4 oz right? Do you have loose stools, from

such a large bypass?

Your stats are about the same as mine. I just didn't lose any more weight

after about 18 months and I wasn't satisfied to stay 100 pounds over weight.

I had paid for my first MGB, and luckily the insurance changed its position

on WLS after I had mine, in part BECAUSE I was such a pain in the butt about

it, so they paid for the second one. I had to pay up front, but they did

reimburse me 100%. I didn't have the money, so I borrowed it from my mother

and then paid her back a month later. It wasn't a hard decision for me, I

wanted the whole enchilada...I am THRILLED I had my revision and would have

done it earlier if I could. I was afraid of pushing the envelope and wanting

something that I wasn't supposed to have...that is the little fat girl

inside that says, you don't deserve this...but we DO DESERVE THIS. I was

afraid that I had regained so much life and what if I had a leak and died,

as I think those are just bad luck more than anything. I was afraid it would

not work, because not all revisions have resulted in more weight loss,

although the odds seem to be improving significantly as RR does more of

them. I was crazy with fear the night before the revision, but that was the

ONLY rough moment, I trusted RR to get me out of trouble even if I DID get

in trouble which is why I picked him as a surgeon in the first place. If

you are still losing, I don't think you should have a revision...(MY

personal opinion, only) until you are 18 months out. If you have stopped

losing like a month 6 or something, then I think after a year you could go

for it. I DID lose for up to 18 months.

Re: Anniversary of Revision....

I read your letter about your anniversary. Congratulations. What

was it that made you decide on the revision? I had my surgery in May 2003

and I've lost 117 pounds. I'd like to lose another 100 and I'm afraid that

I have stopped losing and that I may want a revision. What were some of the

factors that you considered? What was your starting weight? Are you glad

you had the revision? I started at 381 and I'm now at 264. Thanks for your

thoughts on this. in DC

Anniversary of Revision....

Hello All,

Today is the one year anniversary of my revision. I had my initial MGB on

May 3, 2000, and lost 100 pounds. I regained a small amount, about 10

pounds, off and on, but did not lose any more after that. On April 7, 2003,

I had a revision in Statesville by RR. I have lost 83 pounds this year for a

grand total of 178 pounds. I just got under 200. I would love to lose

another 25 pounds or more and then start the Plastic Surgery dance...There

is no reason I can't lose the next 25...I am close enough to make my dreams

come true. Living in a body that weighed almost 400 pounds seems like a life

time away and yet, seems like only yesterday. I am so grateful for this

journey and the people I have met along the way. I am grateful to Dr. R for

his skill and talent, even though, I must admit, I miss the good old days

when our merry group was small and connected. I understand that all things

change and that bringing this surgery to people across the country is a

wonderful thing and wish him much success in HIS journey. The one thing

that I have gotten out of this life changing surgery that I never expected

was an amazing group of friends. Some of those friendships were only for a

short season, and others have developed into friendships that I think will

last a lifetime. I am grateful for each of them...wasn't looking for

friends, but have TREASURED the friendships that have developed along the

way. I can't imagine my life without any of you now. So to the original

BGBabes...and you KNOW who you are....I love you all, and to all the others

out there who have touched my life in such a meaningful way...thank you....I

love you all. Thanks to those brave souls that went before me, making me

trust Dr. R's skill and believe in this surgery...you are the brave ones.

So...on this beautiful spring day in North Carolina, I sit here a happy

camper....thrilled to death with my journey. It was not always easy and it

was NEVER straightforward, but it was MY journey and I am sure there has

been a purpose and a reason that it took what it took...for those of you

other there who got part of the way, but not all of the way, or who are

fearful that you are " one of the ones " who won't lose, just know that it

takes what it takes, and don't settle for anything less than that...we all

deserve to live in thin and healthy bodies.

Definitely loose stools, but I had that anyway...probably go more often. I

also have a lot of gas, but I had a lot of gas before too...I do think that

is worse. I don't notice the difference in my stomach size. I am not sure

if it just goes straight into the intestine or stays in the esophagus, but I

can eat quite a bit...about like an appetizer serving most times, and

unfortunately, I eat OFTEN...I don't like to feel hungry. If I stay with

protein and that sort of thing, I seem to do fine. Good luck in your

decision process.

Thanks . I appreciate your note. Hey, guys, I promise not to respond

to the list anymore as I seem to be clogging it up. But thanks to all of you

Mickey and I were up your way a couple weeks ago. We accompanied our

daughter as far as burg Va. and she went on to College Park land to

see

the Dad of her son. I knew Flo was from that area and knew it was not too far

from you when we went on thru NC on 95. Once in burg we depended on

public transportation , I am not use to that when I want to go somewhere I am

ready to go. The only problem we had was near Fayetteville. We stopped at a

rest stop about midnight and a man came up to our car and said he was stranded

and I was the one he was addressing and Melva did not see him and Mickey and

Beaty were asleep in the back of the car. I said my car is full. Opened the

door and took out my cellphone and told Mickey to stay in the car with Beaty

and I locked the car. I then went to bathroom to warn Melva. When I came

out of the bathroom more cars had arrived and Mickey handed me Melva's Cell

phone to give her because she had a call. I took both phones back inside and

when

I came out the man and his car were gone.

It was an unsecured rest area and he may have been legitimate but if he were

stranded how did he leave in his car. Just didn't give me a very safe

feeling. We would have gotten in touch with some of the crew had we known we

were

going. We did not decide to go until Noon Thursday and left at 6pm Thursday

so you see it was really planned. I needed Flo's address at the time but

survived without it. I had a legal question about child support I thought she

may

know the answer too. I bet this don't make a bit of sence.

You keep on loosing as long as you want to girl and remember I am in your

corner. Phyllis
