Guest guest
Here's another great benefit of Xylitol - as a nasal rinse!! I'm not promoting this particular company of course but for all I know at this point, they may be the only ones making it. However, I think that those of us that are inclined to do such things could easily make this at home. I know I'll be giving it a try for my asthma induced post-nasal drip! Peace, Mouse ****** Articles to Read http://www.xlear.com/articles/ *** Xlear Nasal Wash with Xylitol Better Health through Nasal Cleansing Bacteria and germs are all around us. They live on the surfaces that we touch and in the air that we breathe. With germs and bacteria all around us, how do we prevent them from entering our bodies? The Center for Disease Control has stated that, " Hand washing is the most effective way of reducing communicable disease. " We wash our hands to clean them and we are also cautioned to keep our hands away from our mouth and nose, but more than ninety percent of infection causing bacteria enter the body through the nose and thrive in the nasal passages. How do we keep our nasal passages clean and free of harmful germs? USE XLEAR NASAL WASH! Xylitol is one of bacteria’s natural enemies. When certain harmful bacteria enter the body, they attach to the membranes of the nose and throat. Xlear Nasal Wash merely flushes harmful bacteria away. WHAT IS IN XLEAR NASAL WASH? Xlear Nasal Wash contains xylitol, purified water, saline and grapefruit seed as a preservative. Purified water, saline, and grapefruit seed extract (GSE) are found in over-the-counter nasal moisteners that have been used for years. Xylitol is the key ingredient that makes Xlear Nasal Wash so revolutionary and effective IS NASAL WASH SAFE? Xylitol is a remarkable substance. It is all natural and is non habit-forming. The World Health Organization and the FDA have given xylitol their safest ratings for food additives. Babies and small children can use Xlear Nasal Wash without restriction. HOW TO USE NASAL WASH: Tilt your head forward and seal off the nasal passage by pressing your finger against one side of your nose. Close your mouth and give the bottle a quick, firm squeeze, inhaling deeply to pull the mist into the sinus cavities. Do this once for each nostril. Xlear Nasal Wash should be administered to infants and children in the same way. If the infant or child is resistant to this method of application, have the child lay down and place two drops of Xlear Nasal Wash in each nostril. WHEN TO USE NASAL WASH: For the first 2 to 4 weeks of Xlear Nasal Wash usage, adults and children should administer it 3 to 4 times a day. After the 1st month, it should be used twice a day as a preventative measure. For infants and small children who are in day care or exposed to infectious bacteria, Xlear Nasal Wash should be administered 3 to 4 times a day. http://www.xlear.com/xlear/aboutXlear.aspx *** Common Questions: Xlear Nasal Wash Are there any clinical studies showing how effective Xlear is in preventing upper respiratory infections and other problems in the upper airway? (Answer by Dr. A.H. " Lon " D.O.) While there is clinical experience and clinical trials being done, they are not pursued as much as they are in pharmaceutical trials because the results could not be used. This demands an explanation as to why not. Xlear works like soap in the nose. Everyone knows that soap is the most effective way we know to prevent the spread of communicable disease. We know this because our doctors tell us, the Center for Disease Control tells us, the television tells us. But there have been no clinical trials to prove this claim. Soap and water wash bacteria from the hands so they don’t get into our eyes when we rub them, or our nose. It is a very effective means of blocking the spread of infectious disease, but for the soap industry to make the health claims that are clearly appropriate would make soap into a drug and under the control of the Food and Drug Administration. Like soap and water for the hands, Xlear is just an effective and natural way of cleaning the nose. It is not a drug and the company marketing it makes no drug claims. But if you are handling bacteria all day, and we all are whether we like it or not, you may find it useful to wash your hands occasionally; and if you are breathing contaminated air you may find washing your nose just as beneficial. How do you pronounce " XLEAR " ? The " X " in the name Xlear is representative of Xylitol, the primary active ingredient in Xlear Nasal Wash. The proper pronunciation is " CLEAR " . What is Xylitol? Xylitol is a natural sugar. It is derived from sources such as fruits, vegetables, corn stalks/husks/cobs, birch wood, nutshells, etc. Xylitol is classified as a sugar alcohol and small amounts are produced in the human body. Xylitol has been shown in numerous clinical studies to provide substantial health benefits to the user. The chemical structure of Xylitol prevents bacteria from metabolizing and digesting the Xylitol after ingesting it, reducing the production of by-products that enable the bacteria to adhere to nasal tissues. What is Xlear Nasal Wash? Xlear Nasal Wash is an all-natural product that helps the body's natural cleaning process wash away bacteria, pollens, dander, molds, allergens and other irritants that cause nasal congestion. Xlear contains Xylitol, a naturally occurring substance and one of bacteria's natural enemies. When certain harmful bacteria enter the body, they attach to the membranes of the nose and throat. Xlear Nasal Wash merely flushes harmful bacteria and pollutants away. What are the benefits of Xlear Nasal Wash? Over 90% of all infection-causing bacteria enter through the nose. Clinical studies have shown that Xlear Nasal Wash with Xylitol, when used regularly can substantially reduce sinus and upper respiratory infections including otitis media (middle ear infections) by reducing the ability of harmful bacteria, pollens, allergens and other irritants from adhering to nasal tissue. Is it safe for children/infants/ or use during pregnancy? Xlear Nasal Wash is all-natural, drug free and non-habit forming. Xlear contains purified water, saline and grapefruit seed extract-all found in over-the-counter nasal moisteners that have been used for years. Xylitol is the key ingredient that makes Xlear Nasal Wash so revolutionary and effective. The World Health Organization and the FDA have given Xylitol their safest ratings for food additives. Babies and small children can use Xlear Nasal Wash without restriction. If you have any concerns or questions before taking this or any other over-the-counter product, consult first with your physician. Will it interfere with any other medication that I am taking? Xlear Nasal Wash contains only natural ingredients and no negative interactions are known. However, always consult with your physician if you have any questions before using this or any other over-the-counter product. How is it used? Tilt your head forward and seal off the nasal passage by closing off one nostril. Close your mouth and give the bottle a quick, firm squeeze, inhaling deeply to pull the mist into the sinus cavities. Do this once or twice for each nostril. Xlear Nasal Wash should be administered to infants and children in the same way. If the infant or child is resistant to this method of application, have him or her lie down and place two drops of Xlear Nasal Wash in each nostril. How often should I use Xlear Nasal Wash? For the first 2 to 4 weeks of Xlear Nasal Wash usage, adults and children should administer it 3 to 4 times a day. After the 1st month, it should be used twice a day as a preventative measure. For infants and small children who are in day care, exposed to infectious bacteria or suffer from chronic middle ear infection, Xlear Nasal Wash should be administered 3 to 4 times a day. What can I expect after I begin using Xlear Nasal Wash? Antihistamines and decongestants are widely used for temporary relief of nasal stuffiness and other symptoms of sinus problems and infections-turning off the body's natural washing process. This provides temporary relief but soon wears off and sets up a cycle of dependence. Xlear Nasal Wash thins the mucus and assists the body's natural process of clearing the nasal passages and washing away bacteria, allergens, pollen and other pollutants. When you begin using Xlear, you may experience an increase in mucus flow, indicating that the washing process is taking place. Where can I purchase Xlear Nasal Wash? Xlear is available from doctors, health food stores and pharmacies. Xlear Nasal Wash is also available for purchase from the company website at www.xlear.com or by calling toll-free 1-877-599-5327. Will the Xlear Nasal Wash freeze in the mail during shipping? The Xylitol and saline in the Xlear lower the freezing point to about 5-10 degrees below zero Celsius. Freezing does not affect Xlear. What is the shelf life of Xlear Nasal Wash? The minimum shelf life for Xlear Nasal Wash is two years. http://www.xlear.com/xlear/faq.aspx *** Benefits: Xlear Nasal Wash Fight ear infections and sinus infection with Xlear Nasal Wash Xlear (pronounced " clear " ) is a patented, non-addictive nasal wash designed to aid in the relief of irritation caused by pollutants, allergens and infections of the nasal passages. It is the ONLY nasal wash that has combined the unique properties of the natural substance, XYLITOL, and the health-promoting practice of a saline nasal spray to help wash, hydrate moisturize the nasal passages. Benefits of using Xlear, by Dr. Lon : Nasal xylitol addresses the source of sinus and ear infections, allergies and asthma. These problems all begin with either bacteria or irritants that are in the back of the nose. The nose is a nidus — a nest where problems begin. Cleaning this nest regularly removes infection causing bacteria as well as the irritants that trigger allergies and asthma. Anytime a person has a problem that begins in the nose cleaning it regularly should be a part of their treatment. It is often the only part needed. There are two basic reasons Xlear works as well as it does: 1. Xylitol decreases the adherence of harmful bacteria to the cells in our nose and selects for kinder bacteria. 2. The concentration of xylitol stimulates our own defensive washing of the nose. Ear infections are the most common infection in children. Chewing xylitol sweetened gum four times daily has been shown in clinical studies to reduce ear infections by about 40%. The xylitol works on the bacteria. Regularly cleaning the nose with a spray containing xylitol reduced ear infections in my practice by 93% and used about 100 times less xylitol. While children get ear infections adults get sinus infections. The bacteria that cause both infections first live, without causing problems, in the back of the nose. Feeding xylitol to these bacteria regularly reduces their numbers and can perhaps even tame them so that they don't cause serious infections. Allergies and asthma are triggered by irritants in the nose. Regularly clearing these irritants removes the triggers and reduces the problems. Allergies and asthma, as well as the infectious problems, have also been increasing in the western world, but not as much in the eastern European countries and the underdeveloped world. To see what we have been doing wrong check out increases. Xylitol in this formulation actually helps and stimulates our own normal nasal washing. In my experience the biggest problem with this spray is that people use it, get better, then forget about it. Pretty soon they are back with the same problems. If you get better don't use it as much, but regular sustained use, at least twice a day, with more when you feel a problem, is the best way to avoid them. Cleaning the nose is just like washing hands — it needs to be done regularly. To use the spray tilt the head forward, put the tip of the bottle into one side of the nose, aim the upright bottle at the back of the head, inhale briskly and spray at the same time. Do the same with the other side of the nose. Parents should assist children with this until they can do it themselves. (Make sure you can see a spray when they squeeze the bottle.) Infants should be laid down after spraying so the solution goes to the back of the nose where it is effective. I recommend spraying infant's and toddler's noses with every diaper change. The spray described in these pages is not a drug. This means that the people manufacturing this spray cannot advertise what the spray does for disease and illness. The spray only helps to clean your nose. The benefits come from a clean nose. The only way people will learn about this practical and sensible way to help the immune system wash pollutants from the back of the nose is by interested people, like you, sharing this information. Please, if you have family or friends with any of these problems, share this information with them.
