Sources of calcium

thanks everyone for all your advise on the calcium supplements. my 3 year

old son, who is on a gf/cf diet, hates all vegetables, i'm going to try to

blend up some broccolli and add it to his applesauce. green applesauce, what

do you think? i get him to eat carrots by adding a jar of baby food to his

applesauce. will not take pills and chew on gummi bears. he actually

doesn't like candy and will push it away. he didn't eat chocolate or cake or

anything sweet before i put him on this diet. (certainly doesn't get that

from me,lol) the calcium in the orange juice is a good idea but the diet

says no citrus for the first few weeks. i was looking into 100% cranberry

juice by ocean spray, it has added calcium but also added sugar. he can't

have that either. i might try the powdered calcium another member

recommended. i knew you guys would come through for me.

thanks

Oranges are very high in phenols, and cause hyperactivity in some kids....

[ ] Re: Sources of Calcium

What about calcium fortified orange juice. I don't know if it falls

into the GFCF diet, but it is a good alternate source of calcium.

So is brocolli.

Lori,

I read one of the posts that said that almonds have calcium. I don't

know if your son eats peanut butter, but we have switched to almond

butter and they love it. I checked the almond butter jar and it says 8%

calcium. The Skippy jar says 0%.

We switched because our nutritionist said to avoid things with peanuts

because they may contain mold. The first day I wanted them to try it, I

said that Disney World sent us a sample of Mickey's favorite peanut

butter. They believed me, and that way they didn't freak out that it

tasted different.

Just a thought, on something that would be an easy substitution (unless

of course, he is allergic to almonds!)

Hmmm I had heard carrots were one of the #1 for calcium.

The answers are already within us. The tricky part is matching them with the corresponding questions.

Vitamin A is derived from beta-carotene, and carrots are the leading source of this substance in the american diet.
