Hello, and welcome to the group! I don't suffer

from prolonged periods, but I do have insanely painful

cramps. I had them for years before my Hashimoto's

diagnosis, but I've heard that menstrual problems are common

with thyroid problems, so the cramps were probably an

early signal that something was up with me.

Take

I don't have prolonged periods but my cycles are

irregular. Like right now I haven't had a period in over 40

days and I don't feel like I will be starting anytime

soon. My periods are heavy and last anywhere from 4-5

days. It's amazing I got pregnant with my last child

with how my cycles are.

Tyra

I don't have prolonged periods,however, I did

bleed very long and heavy after the birth of my last

child.
When I went to the first doctor apt about thyroid he

asked me if I had prolonged bleeding after child birth

and I asumed It had something to do with the

thyroid.
I would ask my doctor about the long periods ,

maybe ther is something that could be done about this

problem.
Good Luck....
sunflower

=======================

Hi Becky,

I would suggest the female hormone formula. One thing to remember here,

the pill has really messed up her body and it is going to take time for

it to get reorganized back the way it was before she ever took the pill.

Every woman is different in how her body experiences the monthly cycle

and all this, of course, depends on lifestyle and dietary habits. Long

or prolonged periods are not normal and this is only a symptom. There is

a cause and that can be found in the dietary and lifestyle habits of not

only herself but of her parents and grandparents. All of this gets

passed from one generation to the next.

I would suggest she might consider eating much more green leafy salads,

much less cooked, processed, dairy, meats, stimulating beverages, etc.

This will go much further with helping regulate her monthly cycle than

any toxic pill. Of course, it is all her choice. Just my advice on this

subject.

Peace be with you, Becky.

Perhaps you may think I am weird for this, BUT.....

I fully believe that all women are meant, by nature, to cycle WITH the lunar phases. I think the women who don't cycle with the moon may be a bit out of touch with nature, and just need to become more aware of it's role in our lives. It may be possible to use reiki (and crystal/stone therapy) to attune your friend with nature and help her to cycle more naturally. Or, it may be possible to do it on her own, without any energy work, by simply having her take the time to go outside each night, at the same time every night (celestial time, not human clock time), to just connect with the moon. Appreciate it's beauty, and notice it's point in it's cycle, try to feel at one with it, and become aware of the natural surroundings all around. Reach down with your mind, from your center, and down your legs, through your feet and try to feel the energy in the ground, coming from the trees and the beauty around you, and pull it up through you as you consider the moon. Notice the glow of the moon light on the trees and the grass, take a walk (if you live in a safe area) in the moon light, if there are trees along the path, touch them as you walk through them, look up through the branches at the moonlight. On the dark part of the cycle, think of how the moon is still there, just think of it as resting, in it's new mode, and how the dark is comforting and how bright the stars look when the moon is dark, appreciate that it is at rest, and allowing the other beauties in our world be seen in their own light. (you can do a little moon worshipping dance and no one will see because it is dark). In it's other phases, notice the shape, the color, and the way it plays with any clouds that are in the sky. Pay attention to it's cycle, and how it keeps perfect time without the use of a calendar or a clock, and become aware that time is kept by much higher powers than just our own human means. Absorb the beauty of the symbol of renewal it represents, and try to be attuned to it, kin to the moon, and all of it's many cycles.

I've cycled with the moon for about a year now, ever since I became aware of reiki and crystal work, and became really attuned to my surroundings.

She's about 25 and wanting to get pregnant and went off the pill. When she first started her periods, they were light and very prolonged - 3 weeks at a time sometimes and even longer. The drs put her on the pill of course and she's had no problems while on it. But since she went off the pill to get pregnant, it's back to the same thing she started with. The female hormone formula and/or progesterone cream?

That was the first thing I asked her about and the dr said she's ok. Her periods have always been this way and evidently there's not that much constant blood flowing. She was anemic for a long time, but took some sort of iron pills and was put on the pills to correct this all. She was fine until she quit to get pregnant.

That may be something she wants to ask about and have checked.
